Fuel economy for a healthy L400?

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Fuel economy for a healthy L400?

Post by Jay Pea »

Curious to know if the fuel economy of my Space Gear is on par with other healthy L400s. I've been getting 13.5L/100 with the fuel light lighting up around 415km from a full tank. The range seems rather short, is this normal?

There is an ongoing fuel economy survey in Delica Canada Technical/FAQ Section. It used to be in L300 Technical but I moved it because after a while L400 drivers started posting in it. Check it out it might answer some questions for you.

Falco.

P.S.: Make your own post, even if your L400 is out of tune (note that), for posterity's sake. As your Delica's performance improves post again explaining what you did to improve the performance. FC.

Is yours gas or diesel ?

If diesel, it's a 75L tank and usually most will run down to 60-65L or so for a 'full tank'.

13.5L / 100km is a bit above average and may be because :

a) your injectors are dirty
b) your fuel filter is dirty
c) your injection pump main seal is leaking
d) your transmission fluid is old
e) your brakes are dragging (seized calipers and/or pins)
f) your tires are under inflated
g) your foot is heavy on the gas pedal

The fuel light comes on early. The fuel light also comes on at different points and varies from one vehicle to the next (being an L400 is irrelevant)

On one of my L400's the fuel light comes on around 450k on the other around 560k.

Average is 12-13L/100km with average driving combined city/hwy/offroad.

Not outrageous if you are climbing around the hills near Whistler.

I do a lot of short urban trips in Vancouver and get around 13-ish if I never see the highway. On the highway if I keep it under 110 km/h, I get between 11-12 l/100kms.

I measured 10.5l/100km over a few tanks on the 90km/hr twisty roads in BC. About 12-13/100km when at 110km/hr. City mileage was similar at 12-13l/100km.

This is running 30x9.5's on a 94 L400 4m40 Auto.
