Private Insurance in BC for JDMs?

Post by ealanm »

I have private insurance on my car and I'd like to do the same with my Delica, but the insurer I use (Coast Capital) doesn't insure JDMs in BC. Does anyone know of a private insurer in BC who does?

A lot of them have backed out on the basis of replacement cost (nearly every crash is a write-off). That being said, the ICBC rates really aren't that bad.

My private insurance (Family Insurance) axed RHDs as of last year. So ICBC it was.
F.I. also axed motorcycles and other specialty vehicles.

Canadian Direct Insurance just cover the basic. I used them for one year but they are cheap and will try anything to avoid to paid for all the repairs if you are in a accident. ICBC is a better way to go

Private insurers skim the cream off the top and leave what's left for icbc....I don't like them!

I used to use Coast Capital when I lived in Vancouver. I have to say they were exceptional in customer service, never had a claim though.

Canadian Direct said they don't insure RHD vehicles, and I've had friends with issues under their policies.
Coast Capital won't insure me up north nor for RHD.
So ICBC it is I think.

Thanks guys,

Creme of the crop... Progressive, Geico and other insurers in the US give the competitors rate comparisons so they don't have to waste their time even dealing with the lower 85 Percentile. And they still look good for pretty much recommending their competitors who are cheaper on the cars they don't want to insure...

That's odd. Coast Capital doesn't insure based on city. It insures based on Province (BC). I use them and never had issues even with a claim.

That's not how it works. Private insurers are only allowed to insure certain things, by government edict. They would happily insure you for primary liability if they were allowed to.

I've insured vehicles in six different provinces, three with government insurance and three with private. Trust me, it's a slam dunk: private is better.
