Accelerator Stuck Open on the Highway!!
I was just in the last 1000 meters to home from a road trip to Portland when suddenly my accelerator stuck wide open! i was flooring it up a hill, which us usually fine, i dont blow black smoke...
i kicked at the pedal and couldnt get it loose, so i shifted into N and shut the key and rolled onto a side street.
on the injection pump, there is a plunger of sorts covered with a black rubber accordion sheath. the piece of metal on the throttle control that pushes that in, pushed past it and got stuck!
i had to pry it out and it took the rubber and plunger with it. i believe that might be the boost compensator...

Well done you! I've seen a couple of those go badly.

Glad everything worked out.
If not too much trouble can you take a snap shot? Future reference.

Not sure the accelerator stuck open on the Highway would be that scary in a delcia? Did you reach the posted speed at anytime? Did you actually pass a car or two?
I was happy to read it was a close to home, going up hill and not a run away motor.
(RUN AWAY DIESEL -for those that do not know, Diesels get too much blow by (blow the head, gasket, turn a ring, hole in cylinder etc..) and pump motor oil into the cylinder. This results in oil being used as a fuel and the motor over revving, it can be real dangerous since you cannot turn it off!).

Re: Accelerator Stuck Open on the Highway!!
Are you talking about the Kick-Down Linkage? On the MLB it is an orange rubber accordion sheath, in which case it's the kick-down linkage. Runs from the idle set, attached with two 8mm bolts, cable inside a movable rubber orange accordion sleeve, then aft-ward into a cable jacket and down to the tranny? It's for setting your shifting to your RPM. If that's what you're talking about. The cable under the accordion sheath should have a little metal ball crimped around it, just inside a little cup at the end of the cable jacket.after oil wrote:I was just in the last 1000 meters to home from a road trip to Portland when suddenly my accelerator stuck wide open! i was flooring it up a hill, which us usually fine, i dont blow black smoke...

Boost compensator is the metal contraption on top of the pump assembly that the plugs are attached to. Looks a little like the EGR valve. See page 13B-4 / L300 Fuel Delivery Systems Manual.

Re: Accelerator Stuck Open on the Highway!!
falco, not the orange accordian, but the small black accordian. if you push open the throttle, youll see it eventually push in the plunger under the black accordian

Re: Accelerator Stuck Open on the Highway!!
That is the A/C cut out switch. It disengages the A/C clutch when the throttle is fully open to help with engine power. Its mainly for going up hills.
