engine noise level

Post by Pajero »

Just have a question, has anyone noticed a big differance in the noise coming from one engine to another?? when I bought my 94 Paj LWB 2.8L my friend also bought a 94 Paj 2.8L SWB his engine was way quieter than mine especially when parked and reving the engine a bit. mine would almost hurt your ears and his was no where near that level.....

Any I deas why this would be? has bugged me for a long time now...both seem to run the same..

Thanks

Possibly a hole in your exhaust? Or the manifold?

when i was looking to buy my truck i looked at 4 from 91-93 and they all had a strange sound to them. and it all seamed to be a exhaust leak or a loose heat sheald. the one i bought sounded real bad at first but i grabed the heat sheald with a glove and then it sounded fine. so id say take a look at your heat sheald first :-D

For the 'clacky' valves, is it just a matter of tightening them up?

EDIT: Sorry, a quick google set me straight!

The valves need to be adjusted with a specific clearance to account for heat expansion of the valve stem. I can't remember what it is for our delicas but I'm sure its available with a quick search.

PS Just noted the Deli Tune from CVI. From all I have heard of their service this would have been taken care of at that time.

Hi Guys,

My l400 is in very good condition. I have it tuned @ CVI too. I am very happy with it. :-) It does has louder engine sound more than I like and I believe its due to the valves .( all oil & filters are changed) I asked Butch whether he can adjust the valves so it will be quieter . He advise me not to . He told me to adjust the valves ,it needs to shim them and then the engine will not run smooth. So from that time onward ( about a month ago ) I never bolder anymore cos I have faith @ CVI as much as anyone in this forum who knows him. :-) I do notice that the engine sounds quieter when the weather is warmer.

This is what I understand and if there is any other advises will be very much appreciated. :-)

Couple videos i took.

Cold start up

Engine warmed up, when i took this it looks like the oil pressure sensor is leaking a focused in on it at the end, is there a gasket for this or is it just a remove and teflon tape it up??

I could be way off, but it sounds like your revs are quite low!?

Cold start idle should be 800 RPM, (you have about 500 RPM),right after start up increase RPM to 1100-1200 for 2-3 minutes, maybe 5 minutes more if temperature is -10 degree, (BTW, your truck starts good) then drive without hard acceleration for 5 more minutes. What is your oil level? What oil do you use?

Thats weird i have the exact same pajero colour and everything, not that that matters. But mine doesnt have that clack sound at all. The coldest I've started mine was minus 6 after sitting overnight and it didnt have nearly that much trouble. Sounds like your valves are out of wack.
