Pajero Trouble
Ive been having an issue with my pajero stalling about 5 minutes after it is started, it has been getting worst, it was usually when idling now it does it when im driving. the batteries were bagged and i thought that was the problem so i replaced them and its still stalling. Im not driving it right now but ive tested the alternator and its putting out 14.2 volts. I bought a fuel filter yesterday so ill try that. Im kind of thinking its the front seal on the injection pump but not really sure because it starts really well in the cold with little to no smoke. Any ideas?

Re: Pajero Trouble
Did you check the air filter? Also fuel filter? Both may work enough under no load, but once driving...

Re: Pajero Trouble
If its a 2.8 the my bet is the injection pump front seal.

Re: Pajero Trouble
Well I replaced the fuel filter, replaced hose clamps on the fuel lines and still i have the stalling and its pretty hard to restart after it stalls then a cloud of white smoke. So I'm guessing its the front seal on the ip. Ive done a search and can't find anything but what is a reasonable amount of labor to have this job done?

Re: Pajero Trouble
4 to 5 hours is the usual rate plus the seal.

Re: Pajero Trouble
Not a pajero owner (you already got a reply from my favourite Pajero Master, Mararmeisto, who also has a website www.pajero.ca). Wonder Would a gasket rejuvenator work (opinions, paul or paul?) normally on a delica in the summer I would say just run a half tank of filtered WVO veg oil which will swell up the gasket seals, but never run wvo naked in the winter as it will block up the injectors etc when it solidifies in cold weather. The rejuventor stuff is probably only mineral oil but might help.
Otherwise, anything to do with IP rebuild, then Butch at CVI in Richmond is an expert. But, Your ID says merville location, so maybe a diesel IP rebuild specialist locally can help (Butch can mail a rebuild kit, there may be others have the kit also).
Your symptoms do NOT sound quite right for IP on a diesel delica, assume pajero similar (and assume you have a diesel). But, Bad IP seals usually mean hard start and lots of smoke, and engine coughing rough at start. Your problems begin after 5 minutes which makes me think about a bad LAYER of fuel... could you have something that is OK for the first few inches of fuel (ie do you have an inline fuel warming system or a dipstick heater or engine block heater) but then when you are driving after 5 minutes and now sucking down lots of fuel during acceleration then you are picking up bad fuel from the tank (ie contaminated with a layer of water or veg oil or some wrong additive or did you put in menthanol (bad bad, no alcohol based crap should go with diesel) or your fuel pickup vacuum system to get fuel UP from the tank is bad or clogged. Does this happen only in the morning when first start engine, or does it happen every time even if you just parked for 5 minutes and engine still warm. How cold is your weather? Could you have piles of crud sitting in the bottom of your fuel tank (I heard the tanks originally had a painted lining, which peels off with age and clogs lines). Mine hates starting on uphills when my fuel is very very very low (ie the warning light been on a while) but starts happily on flat, so obviously something to do with location of my pickup tube (which is vacuum controlled on delica L300 not gravity fed) so wonder does angle of vehicle have any change on your problem ie uphill or downhill. What altitude are you driving at, perhaps high altitude. Is your fuel tank kept full, as condensation in a tank less that totally full will cause problems.
If you want help troubleshooting, give us heaps more clues, we are all happy to help. Or post a video from your camera to you tube so we can listen and see.
Cheers, Christine.

Re: Pajero Trouble
Well its not an ip rebuilt that i would need just the front seal. I'm ordering the seal tomorrow and going to replace that and see what happens. I've wanted to replace that seal for a while just been putting it off, probably should be done to every 2.8 imported. But i diddnt use the wrong additive, i warm the truck up every time its used then about a km of driving then it stalls. I havent taken it on any long trips lately my wife and I have been sharing my delica because the problem has been getting worst, so i dont know if it would keep stalling or not. I live almost at sea level, start on level ground, dont have a fuel heater and dont run veg. When i drop the truck off at my mechanic's i will take a video of it stalling to help other people trouble shoot, probably wont be for a couple of weeks tho

Not true - not my website or forum. I go there from time to time, but it's someone else. Check my signature for a link to my website/blog.TardisDeli wrote:...reply from my favourite Pajero Master, Mararmeisto, who also has a website http://www.pajero.ca...
And thank you for the honorific, Christine. "Pajero Master" - got kinda of a samurai-ring to it. All I need while typing words on the screen is a slightly-out-of-sync-closed-captioning-thing scrolling across the bottom of my posts for the full effect.

Re: Pajero Trouble
Well I finally got my truck in and turned out my valves needed adjusting, ip timing adjust, a wire broke off the cold start mechanism and some other minor tweeks. All in all pajero is nicely tuned and running sooo nice now. Got my oil checked and no fuel dillusion at all so I'll wait a bit to get that done.

Re: Pajero Trouble
Hi Guys,
I have a 2.5 Pajero Exceed (60,000 km) that is dead. At an ambient temperature of -2C, it will crank for minutes before it starts to cough, as if there was no fuel in the sytem, without any smoke coming out and then suddenly there is white smoke coming out and engine starts to run rough. That will continue for a few minutes until the engine changes its mind and then it starts to run smooth. After that I can stop the engine for a few hours and it will re-start OK. However if left overnight on the street it will be a bitch to start in the morning.
What I have done so far:
- new glow plugs;
- checked the 2 glow relays;
- hot wired the relay control 5 sec then 1 sec on intervals;
- applied 12 V to the buss bar while cranking;
No effect, still can't start the truck.
I read the other posts, where can I get an input IP seal? Any source in Calgary? Part number?
Is there any way to test for air leaks in the fuel system?
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Andre

Re: Pajero Trouble
any diesel mechanic can give your truck a tune up, which it is supposed to get every 400 hours.
