L400 for sale in Washington ???

Post by jessef »

Has anyone seen this ad ?

It has a mitsumaple on the rear window so I'm guessing it's a members and it went caput down there or something.

I'm wondering if/how it was titled in Washington being a 94 since the ad says clean title and US funds only.
Clean title in hand. This is a steal. Cash or cashiers check only in US funds!

1994 Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear Exceed Crystalite, Auto ,4WD, turbo diesel, power everything.157,000 kilometers. Vehicle's oil filter was double gasketed and starved oil, now it knocks and needs a motor replacement, it does run so you don't have to push it on a trailer but its a bad motor. Not a perfect van but for $4,000 US you can part it out and make money or fix it and make money. We are just trying to re cooperate our loss so it has to go. Clean title in hand. This is a steal. Cash or cashiers check only in US funds! The vehicle is located by the Tulalip Outlet Mall in a Auto shops garage in Marysville Washington. Feel free to contact me and arrange a viewing.

I was just going to post this??? I would be in shock if it has a clean US title. It is not worth anything if it has BC title and is blown up in the US in my mind.

Worth a phone call for a US member wanting a delica as it is a repetitively easy fix.

Agreed.

So who left it down there I wonder. Having a Mitsumaple :M , I would guessed the owner post it here.

Having a Canadian title, located in Washington and being sold by jiffylube seems 'odd'.

Someone would have to buy it down there and import it back into Canada since they are purchasing the vehicle in the US. Ugh. And who knows what condition the engine is in.

I hope the owner will post here and give some more details.

This thread at least should help in the sale. :M

Double oil filter gasket....wonder if the owner took it in for an oil change and they messed it up.

I once double filter an oil change. Started the car and it pumped 4 litres of oil onto the driveway at idle. I was inside saw the oil light flash and shut it down. No damage other then the Exxon Valdez spill on the driveway (now I check the gasket is on the old filter).

Too bad. I would assume that it was at speed or was not turned off in time. Damage if it is knocking is serious and probably the turbo was without oil as well. $$$$.

there was a posting not too long ago from an american, who's friend had an auto shop, and ended up in possession of an L400 - it was a Canadian car, abandoned in the US by a Canadian owner. I don't remember any other details, but this must be the same car. Anyone else remember this, it was only a couple weeks ago? This is why he is advertising it here in canada. If he can't find an Canadian buyer, then it's worthless.

No that one was an L300 (he posted in the wrong form). Unless that was another one.

that could totally be it, I hardly paid attention to the post - is it common for canadian cars to be abandoned in the US?

No.

The Canadian owner drove it into the US = temporary importation

If the Canadian owner went back into Canada without the vehicle, they would be asked where is the vehicle. Either that or the owner got through customs without a hitch and got lucky leaving it in the US.

Either way, an American can't legally sell a Canadian vehicle because it's not theirs. The title/registration is still in the original Canadian owners name.

This may prove to be a problem if someone decides to drive down and buy it. They may run into issues at customs as to why the vehicle is in the US to begin with without it's original owner.

I'm guessing the best option would be to locate the original owner and have him/her come down with the buyer and truck it back into Canada before the purchase is made on paper.

Just a weird scenario to begin with.

Even doing the work yourself you would not save any money from just buying a local L400 that is running. By the time you get it back, fix the damage it would be cheaper to buy a local running L400.

confirmed it cannot be sold in the US :

From NHTSA - http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/ ... 022010.pdf

Someone might want to warn the seller that he/she is doing an 'illegal' sale on the internet and contact the actual Canadian owner about what trouble they can be in over this.
NONRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I would be curious if it has been reported as stolen in Canada. The thought crossed my mind if someone in Canada were to buy it and bring it back into Canada and it came up as stolen... Just a thought. This whole deal smells a little fishy.

I emailed the seller on craigslist to get some answers.

I hope the canadian owner will get wind of this. They may have no clue as to what they can/cannot do with their rig down in the US.

We got this L400 from Jiffy Lube in Seattle and moved here for part van last Saturday.
Engine still running and relatively clean, but parting out anyway.
