Post by Brun »

I am very interested in buying a Delica or Pajero. I wanted to know more about these vehicals but have not been able to find information about them. I am looking to find out how they are rated on mechanical reliablilty and Safety. I also wanted to find information on common mechanical issuses. Does anyone know where I can find out this information. Thanks

I'm not sur what kind of a safety test they would have been subjected to but it would not be a North American one (unless you look at Montero stats)!? The Delica (from what I have gathered) has about a 1 star rating on the front and 5 star everywhere else. As for reliability, that really comes down to the condition you buy the vehicle in. Japanese and Diesel should both mean that it will be extremely reliable. This website should give you some insight but you should keep in mind that one of the main reasons people post here is to find answers to problems they've been having with their vehicles so it may appear that a lot goes wrong with then despite the fact that for the majority of the time with some preventative maintenance they will give you no problems.

PS. Any numbers and statistics mentioned above are from peices I have cobbled together in my search for a Delica and should be taken with a grain of salt. :-D

I'm checking them out to. This site has lots of info. I've had 1 test drive. My first time with RHD. I'm going to find a dealer that has a few of the different models. There seems to be several to choose from.

Entire drivetrain is a Mitsubishi Montero which is sold in Canada and US so parts are available locally.

Drivetrain reliability (brakes, suspension, axles) mechanically is similar to a Toyota 4runner, Nissan Pathfinder, etc...

Driveline reliability (transmission, transfercase 4x4, steering) is again similar to Toyota 4runner, Nissan Pathfinder, etc...

Engine reliability is very good providing the regular maintenance has been done to it and will last a very long time if kept well maintained (500,000+ km's easy)

Body/exterior/interior reliability is very strong for the L300 and Pajero. They both are constructed very solidly and not cheap.

Overall, you can basically compare it to any of the 90's import SUV's that we got here in Canada except it would be more reliable with the diesel engine.
