Here is a place to type random thought's and answers but really it's just so I can pose a simple question...
I'm wondering why I see so many Delica's for sale with all sorts of easily removable extra's on them!? If you take the rack and ladder etc off your vehicle you can still sell it for basically the same price as not everyone wants those extra's. Also, because there is such a demand for components like these they aren't hard to sell separately.
Eg) I could have sold my totalled Civic for $1300 with roof rack, bike rack, box, subs / amp and winter tires / rims. Instead I sold the vehicle on it's own for that and sold the wheels for $500, rack for $150, subs and am for $200 and held onto the box and bike rack. Seems like a lot of extra money for not a lot of work...

Re: Random thoughts
I think it depends where you live how quick/easy it is to sell items. I find in the Okanagan it is a huge pain in the arse selling anything, and in particular automotive items, via craigslist/castanet/kijiji. I've had more than enough weirdo encounters via selling items on craigslist that I find myself tempted to just take stuff to the dump rather than try and sell/donate (I don't but man it is tempting to take the easy route).

Re: Random thoughts
I guess I should restrict this question to people living in the lower mainland in that case as I have a lot experience selling things like that here on craigslist as well as smaller items on ebay.
I'm not complaining, but they guy who sold me my superexceed for $4000 could have easily taken the ladder off the back and I would have still paid just as much and bought another ladder later. In this case I think he was just looking for a quick and easy sale and the ladder was his only extra but especially with a japanese basket, those are worth a good amount to people who are looking for one.

Re: Random thoughts
My answer is that selling stuff is a drag. Especially stuff that I have no use for and that have become just material burdens. I hate having to field phone calls and arrange to meet people so they can kick the tyres and haggle over price. About as much fun as a root canal... When I sell my bus I'll be throwing in everything associated with it. That might be soonish too if the move to Oz becomes a reality... I'll sure miss her if it comes to that...

Happy Day!

Re: Random thoughts
Fair enough, I'm still in the student mindset where every dollar counts and I'm well versed in the sales business so don't find it to be that much of a hassle.

Re: Random thoughts
I advertised mine with all accessories included to make it more marketable in the face of a lot of competition, not because I didn't think I could get more by selling them seperately. As I was upgrading to an L400, I figured I didn't need the parts anyway. In the end, I wound up keeping most of the accessories as a result of negotiations with the person who bought my van to reduce the price. I figured I would sell the parts I no longer need... haven't even posted them for sale yet because, as mentioned before, it is a pain and time consuming to sell all the bits seperately.
I agree with you tho that when every penny counts - and it shouldn't matter if you are a student or a millionaire - the individual parts are worth more in the long run. Depends how sellable those parts are as individual items.
On the buying end, my new bus came from Japan with a TON of accessories on it - I ordered it before even listing my 300 for sale so knew what was coming. I did pay a little more for the van as a result but certainly not what would be considered the equivalent value of the individual accessories. So, perhaps it evens out in the long run.
Cheers!
