L400 Mudflaps

I have looked at all the threads about these but I am wondering if any vedors or other delica owners have found a place to get them, for a reasonable price of course. Without the Kangaroo would be preferable, because i am finding that with the Kangaroo comes a huge price tag!

I saw those but they look like L300 mudflaps.

I am just in the process of making a set of 4 mud flaps for my L400. My bus came with the wide Japanese ones on it but they were badly weathered and basically fell apart in my hand - very brittle. It took a while to find basic black wide mud flaps... most I found were about 100 bucks a pair at the 4x4 shops. Had an epiphony yesterday and went to Napa - 17 bucks a piece for 15"x20" 1/4" thick, plain black reinforced rubber flaps. I spent the afternoon cutting them to my desired width and transfering the stainless hardware with the tie-back cables off of the old flaps. I now just have to install them. Am taking pics as I go and will post when done for posterity sake.

I have been throwing this idea around as well. I found some nice wide thick ones at Crappy Tire but I don't have the stainless and the tie back cables, which I would like to have as well. Looking forward to your pics.

Got my rear flaps installed this evening. The hardware would not be difficult to make. You could also use aluminum for the bottom plates, the wire can be stainless fishing leaders and the eye on the end is a simple key-ring style ring that twists onto the bracket at the back. Here's some pics. You can see how craked the original flaps are. Please ignore my bent bumper... was rear-ended last week and will be fixed soon.

Crap, those look good. Very hard to tell they are a home job. Where about would you get the aluminum for the plates?

You can find aluminum sheet, flat bar and angles at Home Depot or Rona but I find them a little pricey. Princess Auto seems to have it cheaper but the selection varies. You could also use steel and paint it to match your bus once you have finished bending and drilling. The plate doesn't need to be too thick either because the bend gives rigidity to the piece itself and keeps the bottom of the flap straight when driving. There's really no wrong way to do it.

One of the simple tools on my must have list is the little metal brake (bending tool) at Princess Auto. Would be ideal for this type of project. Don't know what it would cost to put together a set of flaps from scratch but I would hazard a guess it is still cheaper than buying a set from Japan

go to metal supermarket for metal...way better prices no min purchase and they will cut lengths.

jaggedfish those look identical to mine! Great minds think alike eh? I woudn't spend any $ on the Jaos flaps as they won't last. I went to a rubber distributer here in town and got a sheet of 1/4 for around $35. I still have half the sheet left over which I plan to put accross the whole back when pulling our trailer. I re-used my brackets but if I didn't have them I would have done the same as jaggedfish. I have gone to the metal scrap yard many times to get aluminum for about 25% of the cost of Princess Auto. I have backed into many curbs already and the flaps just flex along. My only regret is that I didn't make them longer.
