Re: Japan
yup, worrysome indeed. got a my youngest bro and older sister in tokyo with fam teaching english. we worry every minute. my bro just reported that 6.0 after shock and recorded the big one in his apartment, he thought he was gonna die. thank god.
don't really know what to take of the media, my fam in japan are saying we're overreacting in n.america, but we can't help but think of the worst as well. tokyo is about 200kms away from ground zero, they told people 20K away to evac and 30K to stay inside...if i was 50K away, i couldn't help but be nervous. i guess we can only count on the comfort of what some experts are saying about the possibilities of a catastrophic meltdown. been educational though, they say salt water is bad to pump in there so their droping fresh water from helicopters in ponds.
those towns where the majority have perished, what the heck can you say to that?! that's just unimaginable! or those couples/families split up where some were saved while they saw their loved ones ripped out to sea. or how about that house that was just at the edge of where the wave stopped and receded, spared, all intact with zero damage while 2 feet away is a pile of debris! that's fate for you. guess fate and everyones good vibes will dictate how this all will unfold in the coming weeks, months, and years...
thoughts are with everyone.

Re: Japan
I saw a sweet old couple on the news last night, industriously cleaning up and fixing their house. They wanted to fix their house so they would be able to help others when they were done. I like their attitude.

Re: Japan
Thanks for all the Info..
The predicted jet stream path makes me feel a little better! I know it will give my wife some relief as she is freaking out thanks to CNN's Earlier story mentioning nuculear fall out in Southeren BC....
You know what Amazes me...no reported rioting in Japan during all this caos!!In Kelowna as you all know we have alot of forest fires and everytime an area is evacuated...Looting Occurs..Very sad!!
Sound like they are attempting to run a new power line to the plant lets hope that works...

Re: Japan
Even in a worst case scenario the level of any fallout reaching North America would be less harmful than sticking your hand into the dirt in your backyard. If you are worried about the levels of any possible fallout radiation from Japan then you should not live in BC at all, its a radioactive smorgasboard from potassium to radon to uranium.
If you are going to die of radiation in BC it will most likely be from the very high levels of radon in the ground. If you have any cracks in your foundation your basement may be full of radon gas...a leading cause of lung cancer.

Re: Japan
Too true - BC has a similar problem to that of some parts in England where they are hyper-sensitive to all things radioactive: it's in the blasted ground all around them.psilosin wrote:Even in a worst case scenario the level of any fallout reaching North America would be less harmful than sticking your hand into the dirt in your backyard. You could always tell her that a bun in the microwave is not that different from a bun in the oven.....dennis_lambert wrote:I agree as well..In fact there is so much here I Heard they want to mine for uranium real close to us...Beaverdale I think....In My opinion The Difference is how its sensationilzed in the media. Its primarly my wife who is freaked out...for a little personal history we had a brand new fridge that leaked some Freon gas into our house..My wife was freaked out as she was Prego at the time and was really worried about possible development problems...It took me a long time to convince her that it was not possible that the freon would cause any harm...Unfortunatly Our Baby Boy was born with a cleft Lip and pallete...I still stand behind it had nothing to do with the Freon but no matter how many times you explain it.....The point is I think in some respects when the media sensationilizes a news report like Radition fall out in BC it sticks in some minds and there is little one can say to change their thoughts as the idea is now implanted into the depths of their mind...Having said that thanks alot for pointing out the earth is full of it..I am going to try that angle to calm her nerves....

I have a friend just outside Tokyo. I sent him an e-mail, he responded, said all was well ~ things fell off shelves, &c., no big deal where he was ~ just the rolling power cuts. Sent him another e-mail and he is yet to respond to this one, perhaps it's a power cut.
