So there a new sound coming from somewhere around the front end. I can't think of how exactly to describe the sound. It's sounds a bit like a bump, like something might be loose; a combo between that sound and the sound the transfer case makes when you back out to unlock the hubs.
I hear it when we hit a manhole cover/ bump in the road, sometimes when turning. Could be a CV joint? Anyone wanna go for a ride and hear it for themselves? (cheaper than putting it on a hoist, I'll buy coffee).
name that tune

Sway bar bushings, shocks, or tie rods? Good places to start looking...

Re: name that tune
My L400 ball joints were shot after a good off-road thrashing. Drove me nuts; every little imperfection in the road made an annoying "clunk". Those rubber bits start to degrade after so many years. I understand sway bar/control arm bushings and related parts are likely culprits too.
CV joints is typically a rhythmic knock-knock-knock when turning a corner under load, even on a smooth surface.

That sounds like what I'm dealing with. I see a pothole and I cringe. I was going to get under tonight and have a look around. But I was first fiddling with stuff under the drivers seat when my neighbour came out, and one beer led to another....tonydca wrote:...ball joints were shot after a good off-road thrashing. The sub frame on the 300L also needs re-torqued and can make a similar sound
