Tranny Woes!

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

I talked to the seller and he said he would refund if the kit does not fit (I have KM147).

There is also a replacement pan the stiffens the whole transmission for sale on here.

Similar transmissions have been used in Mazda and Fords just without the cable shifters I was looking at the 5th gear in a few RX7 that would give a 0.7 overdrive instead of the 0.8 currently in the box. Big improvement. I just want a practice transmission since mine is being used currently 8-).

Standards are typically easy to rebuild (few are tough, it depends on the design and need for specialized tools).

so heres the scoop... the input shaft gear, and the return shaft gear have a lot of lash, just called j-cruisers and buddy told me that those gears are 300$ a piece, not including any bearings or seals.. he has a complete transmission but doesnt want to part with it.. im not sure how that works in business but anyway. Are there any suitable conversions out there? i know Volvo enthusiasts regularly drop T5 mustang and camaro trannys in there 240's. Has anyone come up with anything like this for these vans? it sounds like these manuals are shit anyway lol...
(oh and for the aforementioned damaged gears that kit wouldnt help me anyways)

I think you could most likely get the gears (guts) out of the KM145 that came in many more trucks.

It is not a bad transmission, but it is a light duty transmission.

Other transmission are going to cost you big money to swap:
-adapter plate
-different starter
-clutch/bearing modification
-shifters (good luck with this one forward control shifters very rare)
-now you need an adapter for the transfer case or use a different transfer case
-new cross members
-now you will need to modify both drive shafts (be careful as the rear cannot get shorter)
-you also need to worry about driveshaft angles (or you will need to modify the engine cross member ect.)

BASICALLY YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION (unless it came in an L300 or internals from similar).

This seems like a good idea $850+rebuild kit $200.00 and you will get lots of mileage if you treat it nice.

Pulling the tranny out is not hard. It's just a matter of finding a shop with a hoist and transmission jack to pull it and store your rig until you get the trans rebuilt or find a replacement.

It took two of us 3.5 hrs to pull it (transmission with transfercase) and 2.5 for installing.
That's 6 hours. If they charge you $1,000 then you're payin $150 / hr or whatever they want to charge.
Also it was the first time I've ever done it on an L300 so a transmission shop should be able to do it faster.

those are both very good points, i guess thats most likely my best rout.. they sell my buggered one to someone who needs a project.... or piss around with it myself.

We charge 4.5 hrs to remove the transmission and change out the clutch @$79 per hour. Total of $355.50 plus tax , $1000 sounds like its really high !!!

dang thats cheep, what do you guys charge for clutches? and did you say your in the lower mainland?

A full new clutch including parts, labor and taxes is $720.30 . We warranty parts and labor for 12months or 20,000km.
