Radiation

Post by blevesque@shaw.ca »

Any thoughts on the possibility of vehicles from Japan containing higher than normal amounts of radiation? See link below:

This could be hogwash, I mean have you ever looked up "Vladivostok customs"? They're the ones who supposedly found the shipment of the affected used vehicles.

They seem kinda flakey - I wouldn't be surprised if they don't know what a geiger counter looks like, they're too busy popping the bubbly!

I am not making this up.

It's a good sales pitch  12k for a non landed L400 is $500.00 below his cost ? If that's the case, he got taken by some dealer in Japan :-D

Do you think this is being posted by the same guy as before in an effort to deter people from buying Japanese imports?

I hope to buy an L400 that lands this week. Someone suggested radiation might be an issue. I don't agree but like Scotty says to Captain Kirk, "I'm a doctor, not an engineer." There are some very intelligent folks on this site and I thought someone could address the issue authoritatively.

If you are seriously worried about radiation you can pick up a Geiger counter on CL and make your own tests - I see several for sale there, and the cheapest one on ebay is 62 bucks. I think it's a waste of time though, I mean, the entire planet's been testing nukes in the open air for decades, I am pretty sure that's done a whole lot more harm to the general population than any vehicle imported from Japan ever will.

If there is a little contamination is it most likely Iodine 131 which has a half-life of about 8 days (I think). It's pretty harmless (for the most part). I wouldn't worry about it too much.

It read more like a FUD campaign than anything. Play on people's fears and you can usually get more out of them - money, that is.
