I've just bought a 1992 Delica and am trying to register it in NB but am having all kinds of problems. Does anyone knnow if there has been a letter issued by the manufacturer that states that the van meets CMVSS as of 1992 or a letter that states what needs to be changed on the vehicle to make it meet those standards? I knpw the obvious ones of tires, headlights and windows.
Service NB suggested I get a letter from them stating it meetss the 1992 standards.
I know this is a stretch but they will not register my van unless I get a Prof. Engineer go through my van and state it is safe. I talked to many Prof. Engineers who say that they will not look at the van unless I can get a letter from the manufacturer stating it meets CMVSS of 1992.
If I can't get this van registered, I can not only drive the van myself, I won't be able to re-sell because I don't have the papers to sign it over to the next guy, not to mention they won't be legally allowed to test drive it.
Thanks

Re: Letter from Mitsubishi
Go to ivoac.ca
They have a section for this specifically
Delica's were never sold in Canada/US so you won't find the letter, however to register it in NB an out of province inspection is required (like other provinces) for vehicles importing from outside Canada.
Your Delica is not an exception.
You're talking to the wrong people and they are trying to discourage you from registering it.

Re: Letter from Mitsubishi
Your Delica will NEVER meet 1992 CMVSS standards because it was never built to them. It is, however, exempt under federal law from the standards because it is more than 15 years old.
Find a different inspector or talk to their supervisor. And if you went to Canadian Tire, go to a different inspection shop - please, for the love of all that is good in the world, don't go back to Canadian Tire.

Re: Letter from Mitsubishi
I have not set foot into a Canadian Tire since 1999. They will get no business from me.
All this business is about registering the vehicle within NB and with the government.
Candian Tire is a bad word - wash your mouth out.
