lowered suspension

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

lowered suspension

Post by westendah »

Hi everyone! So I am contemplating the things I will be doing to my Delica, once I get it of course! Considering the fact that I spend a lot of time in the city, and use an underground parkade at home (with limited ground clearance access), I am thinking that the standard height of the L400 may be too much for me to enter my building. In particular since I really like the aluminum rooftop cargo carriers that some of the L400s shipped with, and this would only add to the clearance issues. So barring an "air ride" suspension, which I suspect would be prohibitively expensive and perhaps not even possible on a 4wd van, how easy and practical is it to lower the suspension on an L400? I am already thinking I'll get undersized rims and lower profile street-friendly tires to help my cause but I also don't want giant goofy-looking wheel well gaps between my smaller set of wheels and the body. Pointers, brands, and past experiences shared are appreciated as always!

P25W fits into most underground car parks, and that is with an inch and a half lift. Remove the basket until you need it ~ that will give you a lot more clearance. What is the clearance of your underground car park?

I am still not convinced that I'll be able to get in and out of my building. My parkade's clearance bar is set at 6'7", but since i want to be able to leave a roof rack on the van I'll need lower clearance. I am looking at an air ride adjustable suspension kit, have yet to find one specifically for the L400 or Pajero (not sure but I thought these two share the same suspension) but I found a company who specializes in it which may be able to do a custom system...

you can get into a 6'7" parkade with an L400 low roof easily.

You can go lower by cutting or getting new rear springs and lower front torsion bars.

It's very simple.

Hey jfarsang, once again, awesome input! Your suggestion would work out great, and probably would be far more economical than what I was thinking however it wouldn't be nearly as fun and versatile as an adjustable air ride suspension. Does anyone out there in Delicaland think this is feasible or would my castor/camber/toe-in/out get messed up every time I hit a switch? I'm not even sure it would work with a Delica in the first place.. I will try asking the manufacturer but your input is appreciated.

A corporate marketing company spent a lot of money trying to do exactly that here in OZ and gave up after $10k He wanted about a 6" drop though.

Easy to lift up when carrying heavy weights rather than trying to lower, but in Japan there are lowering kits instead of lift kits or u could buy a 2wd lol as they are avail in Japan
