Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

The maximum temp I have seen with this setup after climbing up Mt. Seymour with a trailer full of bikes and a truck load of riders (so full throttle, doing 45km/hr) was just under 600F
So, you'd be going 35km/h if you hadn't boosted the turbo, and 600F doesn't sound too hot at all, good news.

Good luck with the back friendly job, is it permanent? So curious here you know, I still wake up in cold sweats dreaming about (the possibility of) working in a cubicle for the rest of my life. Scary thought.

Normal driving it sits around 400F.

Back friendly job is permanent I guess. Believe me when I say, working in an office is worse than your nightmare would lead you to believe.

I had my van into crown tech auto (great guys) for a full service, he checked the turbo and saw 7psi, cranked it up to 12 and life is good. More beans in the lower gears for sure, don't need to spend as long in 1st-3rd gears, and on the highway it is much quicker. I could only do about 140km/h on the flat before, now I can do that even while going up a slight hill :)

Not that 140 is the most sane speed in a delica, it's good to have for passing though.

I adjusted my Turbo on the weekend, half way through a big road trip. I was topping out at 10 PSI, made 3 1/2 turns to shorten the waste gate and started producing 12 PSI. Wow, what a difference. No measurable change in the mileage either.

One word of warning though for anyone about to change their pressure. I noticed that the adjustment was not linear, meaning that one turn doesn't equal a set PSI. I started with one full turn and it only yielded 1/4 PSI (to 10.25), next adjustment was 2 turns which brought it up another 3/4 PSI (to 11.0). I noticed the accelerating adjustment and only needed to do another 1/2 turn to gain one more pound the full 12 PSI. So if you are about to do this, change your settings slowly and put your van under a good load like pulling a hill, I don't suggest tuning the turbo on flat ground.

Next job, clean my EGR Valve. Anybody have pictures of this or a good how-to description. I've searched the site but found no obvious tips.

I saw the same thing Fishtank....not linear on the number of turns vs the psi increase.

Check out http://www.delica.ca/forum/closing-off- ... -1193.html. This contains a link to the uk site for a picture guide to installing a blanking plate for the egr. The instructions are a good starting point to removing the valve and cleaning it.

hey i just discovered this wonderful idea. i think ill do it! has anybody experienced negative consequences for adjusting? its posted here that 15psi is max, but most of you have gone 12 to be safe. has anybody gone 15? any probs with 12?

Ari,

There's been a few post talking about it (Garyo's boost control, my snorkel, Shaun's water/meth...) and quite a few of us are up in the 15-18 psi with no problems. I was surprised that it actually keeps the turbo cooler (my egt probe is after my turbo). Time will tell as it's only been a few months for me but Shaun has done it almost a year ago and still runs good. Gary's got an intercooler so he should be even safer. With my snorkel it seems to bring colder/denser air to the turbo so that sure helps as well. Actually, my van has never ran so good. Feels like it's a different beast. As for 12psi I had that number for over a year before and it's been safe. Hope this helps.

right on. i got a snorkel on the way.. on the slow boat...ill check my boost pressure and then maybe boost to 12 for now, hen push it after i get the snorkel

i did it, maybe!
when i first checked the pressure i got only 8 psi. i turned the bolt maybe a bit more than 1 turn and checked again, under load. the needle didnt move. turned again 1+ and checked and the needle moved a bit towards 10psi but i smelled the smell of melting rubber! it maybe felt like there was more boost. maybe the gauge setup i got is sketchy and its leaking pressure. i backed it off again, 1+ and its reading 8 but theres no rubber smell.
and thats where im at for now!

No idea where that rubber smell might come from, would be nice if it was from your tires! 8-)

You should be able to crank it up until your pop-up valves starts farting then turn it down a bit. That way you'll know you've almost reached your max. (or keep it farting which would be at it's max...)

I've been running 14-15psi for the year I've owned my van with no ill effects. 2 months ago I made a similar to Garyo and Shaun's boost controller apparatus and bumped upto about 17 -18 when at max rpm and van runs great. I also run a K&N filter. I'm in on the snorkel as well and will install my water/meth system at that time.
On a side note, I got to see David's snorkel first hand today and it is sweet....has a cool sound to it when rev'd from idle....kinda like a low growl.

i missed this turbo thread somehow. i see theres plenty of discussion on the pop up valve.

please elaborate.. i dont know where the pop up valve is or what kind of fart it makes

Pop off valve is to the rear right of the engine above the turbo. It blows off excees turbo pressure.....sort of a safety dump. When it "farts", you'll hear your turbo spooling then sort of a "farting" noise until you are out of the overboost situation. You'll know it when you hear it.....trust me! In a high boost situation it will be the only noise that sounds as close as possible to a fart. Not sure how else to describe it. Seems like the post '93 l300s don't have this adjustment screw. Any idea how to adjust the boost without it?
