Did anyone ever get a K&N air filter for an L400

Post by CREGAN »

Hey I was just wondering if anybody here has a K&N for their L400. Do you like it? What is the part number? Where did you get it?

I found this one on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/E-2877-K-N-Automotiv ... 5d2cc9485f

I have them in my other vehicles and I like them - don't notice much of a power change, fuel economy seems a little better, but I like just being able to clean them and re-use.

You can also use the E-2871 from K&N, but it requires you to remove the top and bottom metal plates from your stock filter (done easily with the use of a heat gun) and then urethane or silicone these plates to the K&N filter. A very easy mod to achieve more than twice the cleaning area of the 2877. The 2871 is the same size and shape as the factory element, it just doesn't have the top and bottom plate on it.

Anyone else using a K&N? Is it worth it or should I just shell out and get a paper filter? Costwise for me is pretty much the same. Just looking at the one from Fleebay it looks very different from the stock paper filter. Is that right?

Depends on the K&N filter.

This one that Kuan now has is a K&N and has a growl to it :

Look at the YouTube clip I posted of how it sounds.

It is a lot louder in the cab when the turbo pulls compared to stock so if you like the cab noise, a cone K&N may not be the best for you.

I'd be interested to know which cold-air kit would work well for these (or a Gen II Pajero).

Do you Guys actually follow up on the technology proposed on this forum? Drunster has started it: http://www.delica.ca/forum/amsoil-dual- ... ght=amsoil. I have replicated his installation with some other mods: https://picasaweb.google.com/profister/ ... directlink. K&N was the first one to go in. :M

Missed that one...

...thanx! Now I just need some of that pesky money-stuff. Vendors always seem to want it in exchange for their products.

Howdy! The kn e 2877 is a direct replacement filter for the stock l400. As for the louder turbo, that is the result of the turbo drawing air with a little less filter resistance. That is actually better for for exhaust flow and air intake, and not to forget the turbo itself!
