What restores black-ness of plastic parts?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

What restores black-ness of plastic parts?

Post by Morganizer »

I just bought a 94 L300 P25, and the backs of the mirrors, other black plastic parts, and especially the plastic around the bull bars ("MITSUBISHI") have turned light grey over time.

Is there something I can put on them to make the blackness return?

Thanks,

- Morgan

"PlastX", "Back to black", Heat gun and various other products found at most retail locations. Just type a few key words into the search function and you'll find some other members use other products as well.

Theres some wax products you can use. I used a black plastic paint and it worked really well. Just don't heat gun it or it will make your plastic crack prematurely because it takes the oils out of it.

Auto Glym. Available at Canadian Tire. Really good. It restores the oil back into the plastic/vinyl and seals it in so it doesn't collect dust so easily. Back To Black restores well but doesn't seal so well, consequently dust sticks to the finish.

I haven't tried Glym yet...but Mother's Back to Black has worked wonders on my wagon. It took a few applications in a few spots, but it's looking much better now.

A truly excellent way to shorten the lifespan of your vinyl. What the heat gun does is coax the oils from deeper in the plastic to the surface, where it too will evaporate, causing the plastic to prematurely crack and blister ~ like chapped skin.
