Hello all,
I'm having some problem with the over drive button, the button is working, on and off, but nothing happens in the engine. The gears are not changing properly, it only change gears when it hits the 3500 revs, so i hardly get into the top gears, diesel consumption went from 550 per tank to 350/tank, ....Any ideas what could it be? took to the mechanic, and he flush and changed the transition oil, so the oil is fine. It feels like an electrical problem.
The car is a 94 2.8 turbo diesel, S1
Thanks

Re: problems with the OD button
Two issues possibly, one as you suggested is the OD which can be bypassed, but generally if the od dash light is displaying then it is off. MMC do not sell just the button but it a replacement lever and about 1 x cold beer to DIY fix. A match stick is a temp fox as well jammed into the end of the OD button so it is either on of off.
The other related issue can be on these older series 1 Spacegears is the TPS ala Throttle Positioning Sensor located on the top of the fuel pump. They are basically a variable resistor and every time you drive they wear.
A temp 3 month fix is remove and spray with INOX non silicone spray (NOT WD40) etc but save some pennies as low stock in Japan of those parts given the age of the Delica Spacegears.
Setting should be set to 0.78V I recall and your gear changing/performance should improve back to where it was or better.
Of course the other way around it is to upgrade to a series 25/97 onwards where this problem is eliminated due to changes in fuel pumps

What he said except for the temp 3 month fix 'every time you drive they wear' as it applies to the whole L400 in general and the continuing saga of pushing series II's.Delicashop.com wrote:Two issues possibly, one as you suggested is the OD which can be bypassed, but generally if the od dash light is displaying then it is off. Re: problems with the OD button
Not sure where you get the pushing series 2 or 3s but there are some major changes for design shortcomings in the older more common ex japan Spacegear models. TPS fuel pumps are one of the improvements with an APS and fly by wire tech introduced into the later models.
This is one of them including the TPS and fuel pump itself and the seals..MMC in Japan just replaced the mechanical pump with an electronic one it after 3 years of production. There was no factory recall either for this and owners in Japan and subsequent owners like in Australia etc have just had to fork out get them fixed.
Poor fuel performance is either OD or TPS/Fuel pump seal related apart from the minor maintenance fixes ie filters and quality of fuel.

Re: problems with the OD button
Could the wire to the OD solenoid have come off/be faulty, or perhaps the OD solenoid itself? That would be my guess. I'm not sure how you'd trouble-shoot that!ricapo wrote:Hello all,

Re: problems with the OD button
You could try wiggling the coolant sensor plug on top of the block that keeps it in the lower gears on warm up that used to cause me no end of problems screaming along high revs no speed till i changed the plug.
