can I go south this winter??
can I go south this winter??
I am a new Delica owner and love my little mountain goat, I want to go to Texas for a few months this winter and wonder if the "BORDER" is going to give me trouble with my RHD vehicle...
Thanks

Re: can I go south this winter??
border shouldent give you any problems, just make sure you have your e coded headlights, reflectors and day time running light modual, Oh, and a few delicas have been stolen in the states now as they are so rare and the ignition is not the strongest, so you may want to get some sort of anti theft device, Im welding a piece of Rebar in a u to right by the lower vin plate , and running some stupid strong chain through the steering wheel, so they may steal it, but they wont be able to steer it lol, I also like that pager alarm system from a&b sound.
I also like a secret kill switch for the solinoide of the starter, but ive had a few vehicles stolen in the past, so maybe im just a bit over cautious.

remember to take your form1 with you, the border seems to like to harass some people who don't have it...

form 1 is the document given by custom if you are the importer of your delica, if you buy it from dealer you dont get it, only if you are importer.
i dont think its a problem cause icbc has all the document of your car registration, i think nothing to worry, just be polite when you are in the border

Why do you think anyone would need the form 1? unless your going to register the van for the first time from the importing, It should stay in your files. No one will ask you for your form one after the van is registered.

Hi
I'm new to the group and live in Washington State. Does anyone have any info on importing a Delica to the US??? Aside from buying a place in BC. :)
Best,
Olivia

You can't. The U.S. import exemption is 25 years.liviandnate wrote:Hi

Should this be in the FAQs?
...laura, leaving on her first Delica road trip in 2 hours
Re: can I go south this winter??
Buy one of your 2wd gas vans and a parts delica from Canada, put the parts from the 4wd diesel into the van that is available in the US. YOu should have no problem importing the parts one as long as it looks like parts, ie:gut the interior, cut the back half of the truck off, pull the diff from the rear and the fuel tanks and throw them inside what is left of the front of the truck.liviandnate wrote:Hi

Re: can I go south this winter??
you MUST have your form1 to register the vehicle the first time, and I strongly recommend getting a copy. Customs agents at the border have asked for them in the past as they tend to be suspicious that you're trying to smuggle the Delica in to Canada (which of course is silly being that you can't get one in the states anyway, but who said that these things always make sense!)form 1 is the document given by custom if you are the importer of your delica, if you buy it from dealer you dont get it, only if you are importer.

Re: can I go south this winter??
been to the states a number of times this past year... never had a problem... at least not in regards to delica registration. Apparently i look like i'm smuggling, just not a van.
