Taking a breather

Post by jessef »

I'm going to opt out of the forum for a while.

Certain members are taking my general comments intended for many as a personal attack and when they bring it to a lower level, it just gets too heated for my taste.

Over the years as a comical delica.ca member, I've spent lots of time making friends, dishing out advice and eating my own hat many times over. This is the first time I'm being pushed out by another with unfounded threats.

For those who go a ways back, this isn't a Green1 episode.

As another member eloquently put it, "I prefer more signal, less noise."

When the signal gets stronger, I'll be back.

Interesting...

Too bad as manny have benefited from your advices and passion of the Delica over the years. I guess when one has strong views on certain issues it's easy to clash with the "other" side... and it gets tiresome after a while.

Enjoy the breather, perfect time to go out and play!

Why is it always the good guys who have to back down? I guess it's because they ARE good guys. It's a shame you feel it necessary to step away Jesse as you are such a valuable resource on this site and I always look at any thread authored by you as I know it will be interesting. I am now curious what the topic of discussion was and what was said to make you feel so strongly - no need to post a link as that only serves to drive the knife deeper. We are never always right and sometimes, yes, we have to eat a little crow but if things are getting this much out of hand as to "force" an individual out then threads may need to be moderated more closely. Those of us who also belong to exploration groups know that members will be banned for any posts where an individual is singled out (or perceived to be) in a negative or derogatory way.

As responsible members we should all know when to back off and let readers be the judge of what is being written. I am not saying to roll over and play dead but there is a style of writing that can drive one's point of view home without getting personal and causing scenarios such as this. The written word can easily be misconstrued and more sensitive types can take things the wrong way and retaliate by stooping to more personal responses. It's okay to disagree with someone but stay away from personal attack - none of us enjoy being spectators in THAT ring.

Jesse, I will miss your posts and your valuable knowledge and wish you a well deserved and stress free break. All I ask is that you please return when you feel you are ready. You will be enthusiastically welcomed at least by myself and others I am sure. Thank you for your input over the years!

Well that's too bad - The ole' forum isn't what it was (the coming of L-400's wrecked everything! ) JK... The energy is a little nastier now and then but hey, we don't want the dick-heads to win and run on the good members away. I can think of at least two contentious characters who have left on their own accord (I still miss Green1). I say don't pay the negative attitudes much attention and don't let them bother you. There are lots of people here who appreciate your input Jessie - focus on that rather than the bad energy...

It took me less than a year as a member of the Delica community in the Lower Mainland to figure out that people here don't understand that the purpose of a site like this is to make connections, not be your only connection. Delica.ca is not the community, its just a place we met.

I am participant in a very active RHD community here in the Lower Mainland and none of us use this site to communicate with each other.

Jesse isn't "going" anywhere. Step away from the computer, look outside. Yeah that's where everyone is.

Strong passions usually lie with strong opinions. I for one have met and benefited from Jesse's imagination and knowledge, whether it was the brake upgrade or the manual hub swap out or even a late night phone call to figure out a C Clip, he was always willing and patient. His courage, research, and documentation of mods/ ideas have been the life in this forum and give breath to all deli owners imaginations. Without guys like Jesse this community would be a bunch of people driving weird looking mini vans. His sense of humour is non inflammatory and he is respectful of all posters. His opinions are that opinions like we all have and this is the forum to share opinions whether you agree or disagree. Jesse is one of the few that truly contributes to the growth of this community. I know of others with projects in the works, or have vivid dreams of transformations of their delis.

When I was lurking here before my purchase, a read Jesse's post and mods with enthusiasm. His projects are a MAJOR reason why I purchased, and his advice/opinions to others and another reason. If this forum had more people like Jesse we would have drive line swaps, bigger axles, intercoolers, superchargers and would be drag racing and entering mud bogging and monster truck contests with our weird looking mini vans. Wheather you agree or disagree with forum members is one thing, but to flame and drag down others that try to share their passions is entirely wrong, even at the expense of advertising. Veiled threats are a cowards refuge. You should look and compare at you own projects and shared contributions to the community and re evaluate the need to express your negative comments. We need the RHD community as a whole to become something the NA vehicles are not, we have serious threats by outside forces the may limit our enjoyment and passions for the unique and wonderful machines. We must look beyond our own noses and see this. We need to maintain, invoke, and fuel stronger passions with past, present, and future deli owners (and Pajaros, Safaris, etc, too). The loss of Jesse is a loss for us all. Administrators/Moderators and advertisers be wary or the loss of key members/ customers, for they make you relevant.
I for one will truly miss Jesse's contributions. Come back soon.

Hi Jesse, please continue to drop by our house anytime. Wish we could say more but postings seem to get mysteriously deleted. Christine.

Hey Jesse.

Hope your breather isn't too long. I really enjoy your postings here and have thought of you as a positive influence on any forum I have seen you participate in (the first being the 'JDM Alliance' subcategory over on ih8mud many years ago :-) ).

If your break is a long one then I hope to see you (and your Safari) in the real world again someday either at Mardy's or even better, on the trail on your next trip to Penticton. Take it easy in the meantime.

I agree with RichD that the site is really just a place to connect and the real stuff occurs in the "real" world.

Jesse enjoy your unplugged time...

That being said I think it is Delica.ca that is really loosing out on your breather.....I have read lots of your post on technical issues and your advice is seasoned from someone that knows diesel, automotive, and fabrication.... not some arm chair never got their hands dirty misguided thoughts that most responses on forms like this tend to be....

If there are any moderators/(edit) administrators still running this site I truly hope they are paying attention to this lose and fix it. This site is only as good as members which I think we may have forgotten along the way. Just as I think the site has a responsibility to be transparent on costs to its membership (that is a response on a different post of course).

I hope when you breath in that fresh air you do not forget to come back.....

And best of luck to members trying to keep our Delica running or modifications without this wisdom...

Well i have to say this isnt a surprise. Every forum i have been a part of has turned this way with some dickheads being assholes. Hey moderators, i know it is a tough job keeping track of all the posts but the f**kheads that are ruining it will send the forum to pieces, have seen it on the gunnutz one (of which i dont post anymore for being treated like a retard). Please dont let this forum get that way, this is the third valuable person to leave with the departure of Rich and GREEN1. Fix it or u will be left with only the f**kheads. jessie your input will be sadly missed as you have provided a considerable amount of good info for all of us. I think i speak for the others when i say to the dickheads F**K OFF!!

A guy buys a Nissan and has no more time for Delica-goodness....Sssh

First off Jesse, hope you two have a great summer. Really love the way you got the Safari rigged out for overlanding, awesome BC mobile. It is a big, big world out there and I will be watching for your interesting technical posts in some of the other playgrounds out there. You visited me once before and your welcome to visit again, though the travel fare is just a tiny bit more then BC Ferries rates.

From a moderator that hasn't been watching; I honestly have no clue about what post is being refered to, and was deeply immersed traveling when the Roger incident happen - missed that one too. No clue about the Rich reference, too many years Delica-less.

How aboot taking over as moderator, when you tune back in? If the signals strong. Looking up at the thread top, where it lists the moderators, we all aren't that active on Delica.ca and it's time for more active users to help out. Bruce is the only one whom still has a Delica, yet he too plays in another playground and lives across the pond also.

Take care!

I think it is time that the board members look for new moderators....I am not sure why this has not happened (maybe there is a power hungry control freak at the controls? I have know idea who is even at the controls, is anyone?)>

I mean Adrock has not been keeping up since he sold me his Delica a year and a half ago...are their any moderators/(edit) administrators?

I vote for TardisDeli and jfarsang for ADMINISTRATORS....

Edit: I would like to see TardisDeli be head administrators I cannot think of two people that are more far or have more respect in the Delica community and jfarsang become an (edit) administrators.

Cheers
