Winshield Repair Help

Post by davidwwc »

Cracked my L400 super select windshield last December on the way back from Kamloops from a stone following a 18 wheeler (developing on the way from a small crack into about 6 inches ). had been told it has to be replaced so just left it untouched. It did not crack any more but an inch or so until today after I washed the truck for the very 1st time. Seems that the water ran into the crack and now the crack runs from the bottom up to just over half the windshield. The location is at the centre. This is going to be a disaster. I phoned a Delica importer and was told that ICBC won't replace with a windshield with the heater option on it cos it is very expansive. Instead they will use a NA made (no heater wire). :-(

So have anyone replaced their heater windshield of the l400 succesfully ? If so, where did you go ?
Also, how bad is the situation now while I am searching for help?

Thanks for all help and appreciated.

I would talk to Coombs about that. I've hear lots of good things about them and they have lots of used parts. Maybe you can pick one of those up and have them install it while you're there!?

Also, Mardy has 3 parts l400's. You might be able to get one through him.

Am I wrong though or is ICBC supposed to replace the components of your vehicle with the same thing that were there before?

Hi Nick,

Appreciate your reply. :-)
Last night I did a research on that on the forum and proceed my plan this morning. First I went to a claim centre close by and drove in for a windshield cliam (w/o an appointment ). Was told to wait for an adjuster when I told the reception lady that it is a RHD. Three staffs actually stair on the van while I was pulling into the stall. I got the papers ready and the adjuster came out and said, " Its a right hand drive..and a cracked windshield..parts are hard to find." But she was not upsetted. So I told her the windshield is a special one . After a little look on the windshield and asked for the mileage ,she told me to wait and went inside. I was a bit nervous wondering what she is going to say later. When she went out she told me there is no part around ,so gave me the claim paper and told me might have to order from Japan and I can go to any shop to do that. So seems that ICBC will pay for that no problem.

Then I drove to Vision Auto Glass on Bathgate (right besides Mardy's shop in Richmond). Talked to Earl Hibbs at front desk and things went fine. Now just have to wait for a call once the correct part is sourced out. He also told me that they had a fight with ICBC on the similar case for 8 months and ICBC paid. Apparently this is fixed. Hope this will help whoever needs a windshield claim especially one cannot located here.

Drove home happy. :-)

Vision Glass is cool, they have various JDM shop vehicles, including 2WD L300 Delica with glass racks mounted on the sides. Christine.

I phoned Vision Auto this morning following up my broken windshield and was told they will order the heated windshield from Japan. The special windshied .. .cost ....4000 Can. $. ICBC is paying on it though.

No wonder why ICBC wants to get RHD vehicles off the road as much as they can. :-(

BTW, happy that my problem will be fixed. :-D

Oh., btw, I first called CCauto as suggested by Nick for the windshield. They told me ICBC claim will involves a new windshield and they told me to call Rockie MOuntain Import and even so nice to give me the phone no. Then I call Vision Auto Glass to try that source as Earl ( Staff ) is still sourcing out the windshield for another Delica owner too . Thanks again Nick. :-)

At that cost they will start to write off L400's. A Lambourghini windshield is half that. Where is the logic ?

You can buy the windshield in Japan for $400. To sell it here for $4,000. Doesn't take much to do the math

Why does the windshield need to be heated? Do they not have windshield defrost from hot air? $4,000 is ridiculous for a windshield! You're right, the next L400 that drives up to an adjuster is going to just get written off. :-(

hi, david,
the heated delica front windshield for super exceed actually in my opinion dont make a difference than the one without it.
it only heated the the front wiper blade does not cost any advantage to other regular windshield non heated .
cost or 1 heated glass for super exceed spacegear is 6 times of regular non heated seat for spacegear: just for the glass itself.
thats why beware now icbc is looking for this as this headted seat cost $3,000 each for the glass for local source.
is way too expensive.cost for $2010 lambourgini glass is $3,800 for front glass original from italy. car cost of lambourgini is quite expensive maybe around 180-250 thousand. sorry dont know the exact figure:
so to those people like you david if next time you have a claim they will just write it off.
no matter what you insist to icbc. this heated glass cost icbc too high price for 15 year old car than a 2010 lambourgini.
and then will just write off any of this claim and take it out of the road.
so the outcome is bad.
so to those people who will claim or other delica spacegear owner with super exceed and royal exceed model.
pls try to install just the regular windshield without heated seat ,as there is a chance that icbc will write it off.
hope this help
cheers;
mardy
