Maintenance Light Reset?
Hi everyone. You have a newbie here. I have owned my Mitsubishi Van for 20 years now and LOVE it. I need to know how to reset my maintenance light that is on the dash. I have always taken it to my dealer for service, but with the loss of a job and little income at the moment I need to do this myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey david, can you describe the light- my L300 definiyely doesn't have a check engine light.
Is yours gas or diesel?
Its not the exclamation mark with a circle around it is it? That's your brake fluid light.

No it is not the exclamation with a circle. It is MAINT REQD written in red letters. This is also a 1990Mitsubishi Van/Wagon that was sold here in the states. The light is generally for large mile marks and the required maintenance need at such time.

Re: Maintenance Light Reset?
I have the same van and if you remove the 4 screws that hold the dash bezel on(2 in instrument view, 1 behind cover for the brake fluid res. and 1 behind rear wiper/hazard light switch), then remove the 4 screws retaining the instrument cluster(perimeter bolts), look on the back of the cluster behind the speedometer and you will see a black slide switch. slide the switch and the light will be reset. the factory service manual states to remove the maint. required bulb at 120,000 miles. hope this helps

Re: Maintenance Light Reset?
R. Costa,
Thank you for the reply. I have had by dash apart many times to try and fix a speedo cable issue so this reset should be a snap. I just don't remember a black slide switch...but there again I wasn't looking for one at the time. Thank you so much. I will let you know the results. Hey by the way do you know where I could get a gear reduction for my speedo cable? It seems to be an obsolete part, other than a junk yard, and I don't want to purchase an old part that may fail again.

Re: Maintenance Light Reset?
Hi!
It could mean an engine fault code is present too. Big possibility it's an emission related problem. You can bring it to a basic garage and have them hook up a basic fault code reader to check what code came on...
Good luck,
Butch

Re: Maintenance Light Reset?
I know on early Jeeps it was just a timer that went of after X-hours so that people would take the vehicle in for emissions check up (had nothing to do with anything...only a timer...I wonder if it was a US requirement pre standardized OBD2....

Re: Maintenance Light Reset?
As your van is an American model, it should have an OBD connector somewhere under the dash into which the mechanic can connect to read the fault codes.
That being said, it's usually something emissions related (which if your van is running fine is relatively meaningless, especially for a vehicle 20+ years old), or it's a time/distance-based alert (as suggested by the other poster).

Re: Maintenance Light Reset?
An engine fault code would illuminate the CEL or "check engine light" the maintenance reminder light is for service intervals.

The OBD connector is located just above the fuse panel.
