Anyone know what sorta egt's i should see, installed my egt probe in the egr blanking plate but dont think the reading is right.
It sits around 200c round town, and cruising at 70(mph) its 200c, if i get on it hard uphill it will peak at about 400-450c.
Cheers in advance.

Re: L400 EGT's
Mine reads in farenheit but converting to celcius I get around 200oC at idle. On a flat highway cruising at 100-110kph it is around 350oC. Up big hills if I try and go fast I will hit my alarm temperature of 540oC and then I let off the throttle a bit...not sure what it would reach as a maximum temperature if I did not back off.

Re: L400 EGT's
Nahds, your EGT readings are OK. The image below shows the EGT while climbing at 80 km/h. Although it does not give you the exact temperature in the exhaust manifold you know what is going on and helps you to control your right foot.
BTW the EGT will vary at the same driving conditions depending on the elevation. Driving in Yellowstone park recently (2200-2600 meters above the sea level) I was constantly getting 200F higher temperatures on the hills comparing to the same style of driving along the Oregon coast.

Re: L400 EGT's
Just finished installing mine and have only had a chance to drive it in town but temps seem similar to Nahds. Mine is also in centigrade.
Only weird phenomenon I'm getting are:
1. after install when I turned the ignition on, needle on gauge came to life, jumped to zero exactly and sat there until after start, now however, after shutdown its not falling all the way to zero and sitting there - its more like between 20-50 degrees.
2. when operating power windows, sunroof etc while driving (i.e. any large voltage draw, I guess) the needle fluctuates wildly, sometimes flat-lining and then jumping back up again.
cheers,
Kevin

1. I wouldn't worry about that issue. My gauge is kind of like that too. On shutdown it just stays at its last reading then re-zeros on next startup
2. Sounds like your ground connection might be an issue? Maybe double check it is a grounded to a good spot.

Re: L400 EGT's
Thanks, I'll check that once I build up the patience to pull it apart again. Seems good for the time being. Going to Nicola Lake next week so I'll be able to give it a good test on the Coquihalla. I'm a bit worried about the temps I'll see - I managed to get up to 450 degrees just going over the Lions Gate.

1. normal for the pyro to sit at 20/200 without powerAirgonzo wrote:Just finished installing mine and have only had a chance to drive it in town but temps seem similar to Nahds. Mine is also in centigrade.

2. you have it wired into the wrong power source (I'm assuming you tapped into the gauge pod 12+V ?)
