Re: Welcome to the "Last Word Café".
Makes sense to me.
If then, a dealer continued to pitch their wares on this forum, there would a clear black-and-white grounds to delete/edit said post. It's a much clearer framework within which the moderators can operate.
Plus, there will be many, many eyes noticing any transgressions by dealers.
Will parts and supplies also be moved to delica trader?

Re: Welcome to the "Last Word Café".
Exactly, it gives some good guidelines to follow. We'll have to wait for Falco to comment on this as I'm not entirely sure what's going on with Parts and Supplies. I believe an attempt will be made to move that to Delica Trader as well but don't quote me on that. The problem I see with trying to do that is when a private member wants to sell a very unique product that most people wouldn't think to look on Delica Trader for but that someone might stumble upon while looking through this forum.glenn wrote:Makes sense to me.

I aggree and it is always nice to hear a few perspectives for sure and technical knowledge is always appreciated.nxski wrote: The mechanics are the ones with the best knowledge of these vehicles and it would be a shame to lose them all together. On many occasions when I've posted problems they have been the first to respond and have made it much easier for me to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Providing that no sales pitches occur, I see no reason why the dealers should not be allowed to contribute in a constructive way to this forum.
As for the spamming, I am looking forward to the day when dealer sales posts are gone. I have mentioned before it is nice to browse dealer sales postings on occasion and I feel jumping to another site will not be detrimental to my needs. I value what the local dealers offer but I'm not sure that spamming is directly proportional to positive effects - there may be a perceived need by the dealers to keep visible. In the long run word of mouth and positive experience will win out. I think the poor economy is affecting most people and I wish dealers/everyone the best.

Re: Welcome to the "Last Word Café".
Keep it simple - everything for sale should be on delica trader, no exceptions and no grey areas. Why should private sales be any different - I think people will adapt to a new set up pretty quickly.

I asked Rising Sun for a price on headlights for my L300, and here is what Steven emailed me:jfarsang wrote:There's no plotting buddy. Why don't you call up Butch at CVI and ask him what he was looking at along with fishslapper, delicat and Edwin. One of your van's with original RHD headlights on it.
"4. Headlight assy ; currently there are almost nothing for depot ones ( for
Canadian road ) but we have some at $370 for pair. If you don't mind, we can
supply original jdm headlight at $ 65 each.[emphasis added] Let me know what you need."
Steven neglected to mention that jdm headlights are rhd, and illegal to use in this country.
I've most of this arguing, because I haven't been on the forum much in the past year, but if Steven and Rising Sun want to claim to be as pure as the driven snow, offering to sell illegal parts is hardly the way to do it.
Just my $65 worth.

Re: Welcome to the "Last Word Café".
I must say if all this bs can be confined to the" last word café" it would be
Fantastic.
Having said that, the addition of excellent spouses making sourdough bread (lucky man),the value of good natural fruits, veggies and meat(yum!) ,hunting (I think Falco and Ted Nuggent would hit it off quite well)And some old school
Peter Gabriel is definitly fun.
Especially when it is all born out of politically correct backpedaling.
(Yeah Psilosin Manimal Rocks!,hotdogs are on me if
I can ever get over to an ikea meet again!)
I have to say with somewhat
Of an embarassed blush ,
That I am entertained......
Hope all members are enjoying the

I'm quite certain that many other members edit their posts.FalcoColumbarius wrote:Except when you edit, which is quite often.
Since joining this forum over 3 years ago, I have always edited posts multiple times sometimes to add more content that I'm uploading/compiling or more recently when I'm at work and have to log out suddenly (my area at the hospitals is in the emergency and OR so I'm often logging in and out of my terminal) where my browser to the forum is open.
If you're offended by the hunting topic earlier and I do apologize as I did not feel I came across as condescending.
On another note..
Considering this is a Café, has anyone used Jonathan's card yet ?
Used it this morning and then put in what I took out. It is a great social experiment and although anything Starbucks is not my bag of tea, using that company and social media really made it go viral in a short period of time.

A public internet forum - talking from behind your keyboard
You know it's pretty hard to have that home community feeling when the club's single rule is akin to the boy who cried wolf. It's there on paper, but not there in practice.FalcoColumbarius wrote:You know it's pretty hard to have that home community feeling when the club's rule book is akin to a military constitutional list of amendments.
You profess to be a man of tolerance asking about utopian philosophy, self policing and the communal path, yet you are the site administrator, moderator and enforcer.FalcoColumbarius wrote:But what about the community? What about that utopian philosophy of a self policing community where courtesy reigns the club? If someone strays from the communal path ~ should we flog them? Throw them in the brig without water for a week? Or should we practice Tolerance? I've got to admit ~ Tolerance can be the challenging path to take. I guess that is the true test of a man.
Should we run Delica Canada with the teachings of the Dalai Lama or should we rule the club with a club, like Capt. William Bligh
No offense but you're not Dalai Lama and you were not elected as a site admin nor moderator. You came into those positions.
Regardless of how you use your power in that position, one would expect non-bias to come from the top.
Compromise, equal care of your membership and tolerance for members who stretch that care of yours are things that should come naturally to one in your position. Why you talk in extremes is odd for one who is sitting in a position of authority.
There's one extreme (no rules) and the other extreme (military rules) that you're talking about but you're forgetting the most important aspect for co-habitation between many different types of people :
You want to use the teachings of the Dalai Lama? Use this : Compromise
There is a compromise between the two extremes you are talking about that works very well (modelled in the real world) when the population grows too large.
A compromise here on this forum has been suggested by many but still rule #1 exists but is not enforced.
In the case of delica.ca, there is really no need for a rule if it's not followed or enforced. It portrays a false sense of security to it's members by not being governed and it doesn't punish or make use of a 'rule' to the members who abuse it.
That is a poor suggestion. Why do you agree with it ? They have a funny way of policing their forum and you need to be a member to view anything in there. This forum is not comparable the other delica-related forums out there because it started out as a simple forum to chat, exchange ideas, give and take advice and the most important, come together as different people that have at least one thing in common : Delica's.FalcoColumbarius wrote:There is a member in Delica Canada that suggested that DC be like Delica Club Australia, "who don't put up with any crap". And they were right.

Where it's gone wrong and there is no denying it, is that it's membership has grown past the point of self-policing, especially when sales were introduced with one rule that would never apply consistently because it is sometimes referenced and other times ignored.
There is a reason for moderators in forums. To keep the flow of things, not get involved in the thick of it in front of all the members and to keep members in line who do not follow the forum rules.
If delica.ca members do not follow the site rule and moderators do not enforce it, then here is a site suggestion :
As you (and I above) put it, self-policing. Remove all moderators so they can enjoy getting deep into the discussions equally with all members and remove the site rule if it's not being enforced.
Also this topic is definitely NOT a site suggestion but a general topic of policing/keeping an eye on one's spoken words on the forum. It veered off course.

Re: A public internet forum - talking from behind your keybo
Jesse,
This forum is far from perfect but it's a very enjoyable place to be most of the time. I don't know if you feel like you've been backed into a corner but retaliation is never a good solution. You've accused RSI on countless occasions of starting arguments but whether or not that is true, I mainly just see this behavior from you these days.
You are saying that a moderator can't have a utopian style of thinking but I've yet to meet a more tolerant person than Falco. You've accused me of plagiarism, You've made negative comments about modifications that aren't your taste, you continuously talk about wanting change on the forum but refuse to wait for this to happen. Singling someone out in public like this is not something I enjoy but as you would like some moderation done and because private messages seem to have no impact, here we go...
What the moderators do behind the scenes is just that, behind the scenes. You know from personal experience that the forum is monitored and warnings are made but you don't seem to acknowledge this.

Singling out a member from the rest is not the actions of a veteran moderator. I never accused you of anything. Why are you starting a pissing match ? Not cool.nxski wrote:I only see this behavior from you these days.
Take a look at 99% of my posts since I joined. What are they ? Contributions.
The 1 % of my posts are my opinions and if I was so hostile and an asshole to all of you guys, then why on earth would anyone 'tolerate' my presence on this forum.
Please read the original post in the topic. It is not condescending, nor attacking, nor singling anyone. It is HELPFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!
This topic is not discussed much on public forums because most forums have rules and moderation. Delica.ca is a 1/2 self-policing 1/2 moderated forum that is very rare and it spawns some good discussions.
I swear. I say one word that you guys take the wrong way and shit hits the fan. Grow a pair.

I haven't said anything that isn't true and I will not continue a pissing match. I also agree that you have made many wonderful contributions to this site and I thank you for that!
Your original post is not attacking anyone but your latest have been. I have nothing against you as a person and because the moderators are very tolerant, you along with others been given a lot of freedom.
Another thing to note is that this forum is not a democracy and Falco along with the other moderators were appointed. That being said, a lot of thought goes into choosing a new moderator.
