Recently I have noticed people selling used parts with unknown histories for prices more than the cost of the parts new or rebuilt.
examples:
Used windshield: $350.00 (new windshields install are under $300.00) this makes the used one seem a little pricey?
Used Turbo (may last, may blow up and take out your motor) $600.00 when a proper rebuild is usually under $750.00?
Yes, the Delica is sort of a JDM (except it uses pretty standard parts and sold everywhere but North America (Oh, wait there is a 2 wheel drive gas version sold in the USA) and was built by a few auto makers). Most the parts came on North American models. As a community I think we have an obligation to expect fair pricing and this would come from educated our community. Tired of the excuse that the Delica is a JDM when it is not (unless your karaoke needs a part).
Personally I have had good experience with all the importers I have got parts off on this form (I phone and ask for prices and compare (price and make of the part). I got my water pump, timing belt, engine seals etc... for less then Lordco with my 30% off if they had the parts would have cost). But the recent used prices are insane!
We need a quick one stop data base where parts numbers can be found, expected prices listed, what vehicle to tell the idiot behind the parts counter we are driving, and experience.
Also, we should be able to get the parts data base from Europe for the Delica?
Any Ideas???

I would volunteer my time towards a project like this. I am comfortable with the technology aspect of creating this but nothing about the parts and mechanical aspects. But if you can get something going I'd happily solution something for database itself.
Have you had a look at the delica wiki? If people were encouraged to use that more it might be an ideal solution too.

That would be amazing if something like that got off the ground!
Have a look at the wiki though:
https://www.socialtext.net/delica/index.cgi
Anybody can edit it. Perhaps just a simple html table would suffice for what you're after and it would be accessible to the entire delica community.

As long as the users can update the table and search it I think it would be great ....especially if people can post prices, part quality etc...and then it is searchable...

Re: Data base needed for part numbers, sources, costs
We could maybe maintain a google spreadsheet and share it to whom ever wants to contribute then use a php script to create a table of it on a website? I agree I've seen a lot of valuable information scattered all of the net, it would be nice to consolidate it in one location for quick inquires.
I'll draft something up and see if you like.
It'll be crude but might do the trick.

I think crude is all we need and simple...
the important thing for me is 1) part used, 2) did it fit 3) what did it cost....
so many times it people passing on part numbers but no one ever using the part...
Cheers
David
