Has anybody done this?

I've searched the forum and read about the van that had the 2400$ fuel injector job done, but that was four years ago when these vehicles were relatively "new" to this market.

I'm just wondering if anybody's gone there recently and had a bigger turbo, different intercooler, boost gauges, whatever installed by these guys. They seem to be heavily into the NAMPOS trucks (I see a bunch of diesel over-height-lifted-phallic-sleds driving around Victoria with their decal in the rear window).

Follow on question: what can be done to these? An engine brake would be nice, but don't know if there's the room. Same for a larger turbo - I don't know if one can be squeezed in between the engine and the wheel well. (NOTE: both of those comments can apply to a Delica or a Pajero)

Thoughts?

Before a bigger turbo I would go propane injection.
Exhaust brake is huge and not sure if the engine can handle the added EGT's. Same with a larger turbo. You'd need serious cooling which there is a lack of room to add on.

If you have the 2.5L I think you would be pushing the limited of the engine design....

Few people have added the intercooler and turned up boost...

I was thinking an intercooler on the bushguard or maybe in the airbox spot with a snorkel scoop for cold air....

Personally I would do an engine swap for power...but, I just cannot stop modifying it is a disease.....

Depends on how you use your truck...if you need it to be reliable off the beaten track leave it stock but tuned....or swap in a more powerful motor and leave it stock tuned....

For me im going to put in a 4'' turbo back exhaust on my l400 in the upcoming year, also is it posible to install a inline style IP instead of the bosch vp pump style on the 4m40? I have seen people change thier VP pump to the p-pump(inline IP) in the 5.9l cummins engines befor :M

You could use the 2-stroke tuning rules "lean it out until it seizes and then run the new motor a little richer"

In this case turn up the boost till it blows and than run a little less boost on the new motor?

I would start with the VW crowd and look for a Bosch vane pump body like the one mated to the 4M40 (L400). Once you find that, the rest is a matter of using that body number and seeing if it cross references with an inline pump.

example. nissan patrols (TD42) engine came with an inline pump but most with the typical vane pump. There's a lot of different pumps out there that I'm sure are interchangeable. Just have to dig around. 8-)
