cheers.
You can machine your front rotors well within safety criteria , but just one time if you need.
I guess it costs you appro. $30-40 for pair. :-)

There is absolutely no reason to spend the money/labour to remove the rotors/hubs (more than $30-40), separate the rotors and have them machined if the poster says they are still good.

To the original poster, tackle the small things first before you spend money on something that is either not needed or has been done already.

For your original plight, you might not need calipers 8-)

does it click when you tap on the brakes ? move forward and lightly press the brake pedal, let go immediately, press again, like tap on , off , tap on, off... with the window rolled down.

do you hear the click when you tap the brake pedal ?

If so, then you may need new brake pad clips. they either expanded or are just a 'hair' not the right fit. they are about a loonie for a pair.

ex. if you buy PG montero pads and put the pads in using the old spacegear shims/clips, you will probably get the click click sound after a while.

very small differences between the pad clips from one manufacture to another.

it's not vital you swap them out right away. just annoying.

Guys
The Napa part numberfor a semi loaded front caliper is 242-64010, price through large local utility in May 2011 was $68.03. :-D :-D They had to be freighted in for an additional $10. ea, still cheap.

thanks for the additional input and advice fellas! will try the light tap/stop next. all i've noticed is that click at the very end just before the vehicle completely stops, if i gently apply the brakes and just threshold brake when not in a rush to stop, then i can limit that click sound.....but now that i think about it, i think it does click at the start. so yeah, i think it's just the pads and/or the clip over the pads that's makin that silly click. the rig stops normally and no other noises or vibrations are felt...this could be that easy/simple fix then!

Not a big deal...sounds like the previous brake pad installer miss_placed the new clip and had to use the old one.
