Does anyone know if the stock stereo has a built in crossover for the front speakers? Would make sense but not sure. I am installing a set of 6.5" speakers with 1.75" tweeters that come with cross over cable but I don't think I need them nor do I want to figure a way to get the speakers wires from 4" old speaker location into the door panel so I figured I could just hook up existing wires. Have I assumed correctly?
Thanks
Matt

Re: Stereo speakers crossover built in??
I never had a stock stereo in my van so I'm going from past car audio experience from other cars I've had. I seriously doubt it has a built in cross over. Perhaps some caps on the speakers but no true cross-over. Built in cross-overs only started to hit the after market world on high end decks about 10 or less yrs. ago. Many had EQ's, but not cross overs. I just bought a pioneer deck that has a cross-over and to find this feature I needed to go to a fairly high end unit. I just installed 6.5 separates but with a new head unit and amp. The simplist install I would do if I were you would be to find the speaker lead to the 6.5, cut it before it goes from the interior into the door and splice in the cross-over. Then run a new wire from the cross-over to your tweeter and use the stock door wire for your 6.5.
I have never used a stock radio to power anything but stock or similar quality speakers. Replacing stock speakers with separtes like you have will be an improvement but you will short change their full potential significantly. What kind of speakers are you puting in? Even a cheap amp with 20+ amps RMS would be a HUGE differance from the stock radio power.
