Hopefully you can understand my photoshop wizardry on my previous picture...

In the areas exactly in front of the LED I put the foil tape on the backside of the lighttube as if it was a mirror. On the picture this is teh translucent green to indicate that it is on the backside. To aid it a bit in deflecting the beam all around I pressed in on teh foil at the hole opening. This made the foil go slightly convex facing the LED (likely not that important...).

On the front side I just ran strips down all the pathways as indicated by teh dark green (my foil job is more complete than the photoshop painting, this was just to give an idea of location). I think light tubes are designed not to let much light escape but I had a whole roll of foil tape to do something with and thought if it might help I might as well.

Did the cluster today. I used mostly cool white coloured LEDs but most locations on the cluster have the plastic pre-tinted green, amber or red so they still show up as the original colour more or less.

The few locations that are clear and free to easily change colour with bulb colour were: Glow plug, AT Power, AT Hold, Water in FuelFilter, Center Diff Lock. I used Prince and the Revolution UV Purple for those spots with the exception of the Water in Fuel Filter where I used Amber.

All Done...

I wonder if this can be done with the LEDs that can cycle through various colours... Then you could change some of your dash lights, or cycle them....

It should be possible everywhere except the main gauge dials. It would require running one or two tiny wires to each RGB LED in the dash, and running those wires to a controller. Not as complex as it might sound.

But this would allow the lights to be controlled by a single push button, and they could cycle through about 8 colours at a push, or slowly fade in from one colour to another.

I was wondering if this experience can help with a small problem of my own.

In your image IMG_3141_DxO.jpg, the screen lights (that remain blue) are not on. And in IMG_3142_DxO.jpg they are on again.

Is there a switch or fuse that need be replaced to make that screen work? I had some smoke come off the screen and an apparent burn-out in the top right corner where there are appear to be two small rings about 1cm apart. It looks like I would have to seperate a lot of glass to repair that and am hoping for a simpler solution.

Thanks

It sounds like something in your screen burned out. You can get a replacement from Coombs Country Auto.

As an aside, going through this thread again, I have been looking into RGB LEDs.

Seems a colour changing dash will work without too much problem. The real problem is the neo wedge LEDs as you can't get those in RGB colour changing formats.

Thus, a fully colour changing dash mod would require modifying some neo wedge lights in a similar fashion as to here:

http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x3 ... ing-38712/

As to the wiring, the LED colour change box would have to be wired into the 12 dash light power. Then you would run three wires - one for Red, Green and Blue to each light, bypassing the normal wiring in the dash, to each LED. Ground would be local to each light, though may be easier as a bundle of 4 wires.

This way, when the lights are on, the control box decides the colour of the lights, and you don't need to wire resistors to each bulb.

Of course, you do have to run a lot of wire....
