Simple Organizers in a L300

It was time. I only had my Delica a week and was planning on being on the road a lot, maybe even years. I woke up in morning in a friend's driveway, in the Van of course, and decided to look for materials to make some simple organizers to get me by until the serious mods could be undertaken. To my surprise (but not too surprised, knowing how the Universe works its magic sometimes) the house next to me had a free stash at the roadside. I grabbed some pre-painted particleboards and tossed them in Mr. Roboto. Later I swang by two second hand stores and found some other material.

The best was the metal shelving. These were not even thrifts store items but part of the store's display shelves. After asking them how much, they showed me a room where the rest were stored and said, "ah yeah, they are our store shelving, but as you can see we have tons, so yeah we can sell them to ya". Score! Not only did the paint match Mr.Roboto it also matched the particleboard I just got. The particleboard was just the right thickness to snap into the sides of the shelving to make it free standing with no need to fasten any of it, making it easy to pop off to get to things underneath.

Another item I scored was a piece of plywood just centimetres longer than the space I wanted to put it. I just shaved a bit off the edge and it fit between the top moulding at the rear. The measurement was just shy of 47 inches being narrower at the rear. I used hooks found at the hardware store used for panelled ceilings, that snap onto the rib framing of the sectional squares. These fit nicely on the moulding again allowing it to snap in and snap out again. The board got covered with some fabric from the second hand store, using carpet tape and furniture nails (upholstery nails).

I'm quite happy with the results!

Wow, what a great layout, and I love those ceiling hooks ... bring some with you anytime you want to sleep in our driveway, you are welcome whenever (Burnaby). WE love comparing camping arrangements. Cheers, christine.

These hooks are great. One could use them for a cargo mesh up top in a giff. I'm sure there a ton of uses.

Do you have that wvo tank strapped down? If you've ever seen a wvo tank full of hot oil bust open inside a vehicle, it's messy.

Oh yeah, the tank is strapped. Just not for the photo. Ya might notice the clean strap mark on the tank. I just had it off for the renos.

Oh, and sorry Christine, for some reason my original reply didn't post. I say I am from Nelson, tho I will be spending most of my time up North out of Grande Prairie, AB. I'm currently training to be a truck operator class one driver. I'll be traveling between Nelson and the North until I can return to Nelson full time to finish my studies in TCM and buy property. Until then, Mr. Roboto and I will tour around on off days, and he be my home until I find a roof back where my heart lay in the Koots.
