possible timing isue, need help

I just spent a lot of time changing out the timing chain on my '94 L400, and now that it's all put back together it will not start. The engine turns over and there is exaust but it dosen't fire up.
The orginal timing chain was a whole chain link longer and was maxing out the tentioner(a mistake on the manufactoring end, chain had a recall). I aligned the new chain so that it matches the timing marks on the sprockets and it seems to fit properly. But Im wondering if maybe the timing is some how off because of the difference in chain length. Dose anyone know were I can find info on checking and fixing timing isues? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a timing chain thread a while back regarding this.

The issue is not with the chain length. If you changed that, then your timing will be thrown off and you'll get the symptoms you are describing.

The issue was with the tensioner being too short by a few mm and the chain connectors being too square-like.

The replacement chain should be identical in length to the old one. There are some aftermarket timing chains that are too long or too short and you either need to remove or add a link or two.

I have read the other thread, it was helpful in determining my problem in the first place.
The new chain was a diferent length. So do you think that I am now deeling with a injector/fuel pump timing problem? If so do you know of any helpful litrature?

Sorry for your problems. Not many L400 owners do their own work, and certainly not on the Open Heart Surgery stuff. You had a reply from Jesse Farsang who is one of the experts I would trust. At this point I would be phoning one of the trusted mechanics such as Glen at Coombs (www.ccautos.ca 250 954 2157 ccautos@telus.net) or Butch at CVI (www.cviautos.ca 604 247-0500). Another knowledgeable delica owner is Dennis Lambert (dennis_lambert) in Kelowna (http://nomadjdmautopartsca.ipage.com/index.html). You do not want to drive with it wrongly tensioned, as major catastrophe can occur. You might check the UK or Australian forums, as they do a lot of their own work. Best Wishes, Christine.

your timing could be off. not easy to replace this.
that could be the problem.
the original timing chain if you think loose is right.
but the tensioner could have problem. now if you not that experience on this.
maybe the injection pump timing is off also.
its not easy to change this as what other people think.
so you would take out the wholething ac and other not a good feeling to do this.
check the timing again.

tension is done automatically with the tensioner (spring loaded)

the only thing I can think of is either the cam sprocket is out of line with the crank shaft or the injection pump sprocket is off.

Hard to say behind a keyboard.

Thanks for the help guys. I have pulled it all apart again(much easier the second time) and I am now very confident that I got the chain lined up prorely. So I think it's time to get someone else to time it for me, sounds like a really tech job.
