Overdrive problem
Overdrive problem
Need some help with an OD problem. Symptom is the OD will drop out randomly at highway speed for a couple secs then kick back in again. Very annoying if you are doing 90 kmh and the revs suddenly hike up to 4000 rpm. Not easily reproducible...sometimes it won't do it at all for hours on end, other times it will do it 3 times in 2 minutes. Note that in my 1996 L400 super exceed I do NOT have a coolant temperature switch so it can't be that. Unfortunately the shop manual on this site applies to those delis that do have the switch so it isn't totally applicable to my deli.

Re: Overdrive problem
Perhaps your TPS and/or kickdown cable need adjusting. There are several threads on the forum discussing them.

X2. Try adjusting it and see what happens.tonydca wrote:Perhaps your TPS and/or kickdown cable need adjusting. There are several threads on the forum discussing them.
Jesse wrote this when I had my problem and it was simple and painless -

Adjusting The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) ADJUSTING_THE_TPS.pdf 965.64 kb
My van does the same thing. I adjusted the TPS and it was like night and day - no more crazy over reving like you described. The over reving happened at the same spots too (80-90, 30-50) Then after adjusting my TPS I got 2 days of heaven and then my TPS went. Now I can set it and check it again a half hour later and it is a totally different and much higher voltage. Not having so much fun waiting for a new one - 5 weeks and counting.
