Speed of a Pajero?

Post by pajero all rounder »

What is the speed of a 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero, Diesel Turbo with intercooler, 2.8L 4 cyl, Automatic. I have a 2.5 litre pajero and not happy with it's highway speed. Especially when towing a camper tent trailer.

Thank you.

What did you drive before? If it was a NAMPOS-truck with a greater than 5 litre V8 engine - you're not going to be "happy". It's that simple.

That being said, I have little trouble towing one tonne or less with my '94 Pajero SWB. The 2.5 litre? It would have a little less performance, primarily because of it's smaller engine. I did find with my Delica that it did best when it towed between 500 kg to 750 kg. It would tow a tonne, but it performed much better towing less.

There are far too many factors involved here.
-weight of the trailer
- modifications done to the vehicle
- driving style
- your interpretation of speed
- etc

I think it's safe to say with the 2.8 you'll go a bit faster. :-D

Yes faster but still a DIESEL engine...big trucks go slow up hill because pushing a diesel can melt motor parts....

You really want to go fast swap a V8 into it...you want ok speed and ok mileage 2.8 is an Ok motor...

Here is the basic formula: Fast, Fuel Mileage, Towing Capacity (pick any two)

Is that a European Pajero or an African Pajero? (sorry, I couldn't resist)

The 2.5L is a dog compared to the 2.8L in stock form.

The 2.8L with a 2.5" exhaust and a larger intercooler will be much better to tow.

Go and test drive one.

Could you not just increase the size of the tube so the bend wouldn't be as problematic?

Scheisse!

My alterior motive is to find a shop that does mandrel bending so I can get them to make some intercooler pipes, where increasing the size of to overcome the poor bend radius is not an option.

Oh, common! It is REAL Japanese as I always tell my daughter, it is UNIQUE truck!
Did test drive, - 135 km/h on plain highway (stopped to accelerate to satisfy my wife's request)
Normally go 90 km/h on 5th gear up to the Grouse mountain. Then wait 10 minutes to cool down the turbo but who cares?!
Pajero is not a quick starter but unstoppable when up to speed, real pleasure to drive!
