If the mods take the repetitive quotes, self-quotes and posts from this thread, we can keep it easily down to 3 pages and cut it in half. If it continues like this, I'll just start a fresh one to keep it less convoluted.
This thread isn't here for dealers to say multiple times "FYI we stock X product", that is reserved for Delica Trader.
If a dealer wants to add in a parts number that is missing, then they should be doing it in the http://www.delica.ca/forum/delica-faq-section-16/ where it can be useful for ALL members, not just the one's enjoying the drama in this one.
Lack of structure leads to multiple threads created time and time again of the same question/topic.
One of the moderators, if you can please cut this topic in 1/2 with only the related posts, it would be appreciated.

Definitely not the plugs. I didn't even bother to pull them because this morning, after sitting for 2 days and in 4 C temperatures, it fired up *instantly* and without the slightest bit of smoke. Other days when the coldstart gremlin feels like it it I have to crank for a minute and it will chug and pour out clouds of smoke once it finally fires. If it is the fuel pump seal, perhaps on saturdays and sundays it behaves and mondays and wednesdays the gremlin gets crotchety and acts up. I absolutely hate intermittent faults.jcolvin wrote:LOL I did jinx you din't I? the L400 seems to come standard with a cold-start gremlin. I tested my new relay and it was fine; it's putting voltage to the plugs. Now I have to remove a couple plugs and see if the brand-new ones cooked. I can't see why they would unless they were the wrong spec....the glow relay only goes on for a max of 8 secs (easy to hear it click on and off) which should not be enough to cook plugs.psilosin wrote:
Yep, checked the supply power lines to relay...all good. And the ECU is activating the trigger wire (likely not the proper terminology) that activates the relay so it seems the ECU is acting normal. Tested the relay with a seperate trigger and while it clicks no power ends up to the switched pole so like before it looks like the relay is the issue. The question now is, is a second relay failing within days just bad luck or can something be cooking it? You would think a fuse would blow before the relay itself if there is some crazy power surge happening though. It is extra interesting since Jcolvin looks to have had the same scenario play out. If the relay cooks again I am definately going manual control as the next step...have such a nice shiny boat horn button in my bucket of parts for years just waiting for a use.![]()
I am positive the fuel system is not at fault as you say. There is 0 volts going to the glow plugs...100% an electrical issue. Other tips that the fuel system was not the issue was fuel ecconomy is normal and she runs without a hiccup after starting. My Hilux with a mild IP leak exhibits a very different scenario...fuel filter needs pumping up after a few days of no driving and it is easy to start but bucks and misses for 10-20 seconds until idle smooths and chugs and hestiates while driving for a couple minutes until the IP seal swells up, and fuel ecconomy took a hit.
I can't see how you could cook the relay so quickly unless you have a short somewhere in the plug side that could melt a contact inside the relay, and this would blow the fusible link.
I'm still not sure if my issue is glow or fuel. I'm scheduled for a pump-seal change-out this week so we will see if this finally kills my gremlin.
Re: Problems starting in the morning or when cold ? Adjustme
Well, pump seal was changed and so far so good. No smoke or stuttering at all. The acid test will be when the temp drops sub zero but so far looks like the gremlin may have been slain!

I don't get why some people have a cold start problem, I don't have any problems and I done nothing except for the glowplugs that I changed two years ago. I havent even changed out my IP main seal, when I start up the van in the morning I wait for the two clicks and the engine starts on half a crank. The engine does have a occasional cough here and there and it idles very smooth. I always wait for the engine to warm up for 10-15 minutes and a little longer during the winter.

The center diff light is messed up, the center diff is not engaged I think it is a lose conection. I did paint the intercooler shroud and I also cut out those plastic parts that went over the intercooler.

Cool. Did you use any special paint for that? Is High heat neccessary? I was thinking about doing that this summer and then ran out of time. Add it to next summers "To Do List"1994delicaman wrote:The center diff light is messed up, the center diff is not engaged I think it is a lose conection.
