If anyone is thinking about coming out on the 17th, I would highly recommend it. Carp (Dennis and Dee Dee) and myself drove the roads yesterday and I have to say it was incredible. We went all the way back to the Banff park boundary on two different trails. The Winter road was outstanding with a bunch of river crossings - a couple of which were a little trickier to negotiate but still tame enough for those who have never tried. The scenery was crazy and I got to witness ice-climbing up close - the location Carp and Madmazda went 2 weeks ago. Will post a few pics shortly once I get pics sorted out - video will follow that, including instructions on how to get stuck on an ice shelf in a river - wink, wink :-D

Carp escorted me back through the river crossings then we parted ways as they were camping overnight out there. The rest of the trip was relatively uneventful until I got onto the main highway back to Cochrane which was a slow run all the way back to Calgary due to a severely blinding snow storm with almost zero visibiity.

Story and pics in Member Trips section.

A BIG thanks to Dennis and Dee Dee for showing me a piece of their weekend world. I had an amazing time! 8-)

Hmm, I'm going to be out in that area right around Christmas, any chance of a boxing day, or post-boxing day run?? I'd love to check that area out and I would also love to try pickin my way up a frozen waterfall.

Hey gang,

If I'm out of the shop in time for next weekend, I'd be down for joining you guys. It'd be my inagural run of this nature in the honeywagon!

Hey there, just joined the forum today but I'm not getting my Delica until fall next year. Going for the late 97 Star Wagon (GLX). I do however own a trail ready Nissan Xterra with full recovery gear. If you don't mind being seen with a Nissan I would be interested in a run on the 17th. Always a good idea to have a rig with a winch in the group.

Saturday December 17th, We will leave Richmond Co-Op at 9:30 AM and will meet up at the intersection of highway 1A and highway 40 which is west of Cochrane by the Gas plant, at about 10:00 AM. Let us know if you are planning to come.

Road conditions as of this past weekend are good. River crossings are shallow and should not be a problem.
If the weather and time permits, we will have a bon-fire and hotdogs while we are out there.
Bring along a good pair of boots and the rest of your winter gear. Bring your camera!
Questions or suggestions anyone?

See you Saturday,
Dennis & Dee Dee

Linda and I will be there!
One suggestion... anyone who thinks they might like to come... should. It's a great chance to seem some amazing scenery and get to know your vehicle.
Oh... and... anyone who has 2-way radios and recovery gear (tow straps, shovel, traction plates, etc) should bring them. Don't rush out and buy this stuff if you don't... there will be enough recovery gear on hand anyway. Dress warm and prepare for wind.
Should be a fun day!
Cheers!
Ian

At the risk of jinxing myself again....

I will be at the 1a/40 junction at 1000hrs.

My radio will be dialed on 462.7125 (aka channel 7 on the Family Radio Service).

I will be listening for your arrivals.

Bon Fire, Hot Dogs ? Giddy-up!
Thanks,

White Mule

The beast is back in my possession, and I'm stoked to try and get out with you guys. It'll be the first 4 wheelin' fun that I have in the van, so I'm a little nervous, but equally excited!

Now this might sound stupid, but I have a pretty important engagement to get back to in the city in the evening but I still want to get out. I'd rather not put a time restraint on a fun trip such as this, so I was just wondering if any of you could provide a sense of timeline for this excursion? Any thoughts would be helpful in my planning.

Also, no recovery gear or radio for me - I'll be moreless reliant on the experts (sorry). I'll PM my mobile to Dennis & Ian in case.

Cheers gang,

- Curtis
