temporary registration for 1 month

Post by gregvdd »

Hi !

I am from Montreal, my idea would be to import a delica to Vancouver and drive it around for 3 weeks in BC but eventually also in the US before driving back to Montreal.

Is it possible to get a transit or any kind of temporary registration in BC for 3 weeks or 1 month and not to have to pass the provincial inspection in BC, (the inspection in QC is much easier) ?

any info welcome ;-)

You should not be driving around without changing the headlights (and probably the other things required for compliance) because it's a real hazard having your low beams aimed at oncoming traffic, plus a lot of these vehicles have unknown history of sitting around for a long time, so it should really be inspected for your own safety.

it's probably easier to get a temporary Quebec permit as you are from there, ask at a registry office, explain you're about to pick up your new vehicle in another province, but that it will take a month to get home, ask them what your options are.

(For Albertans the simple answer would be take your old license plates and put them on the vehicle, drive it 'till you get home, and then compliance it immediately (officially I believe you have 2 weeks from when you first put the plates on to get it registered), quebec may be different though (quebec usually is) simply because you guys tend to leave the plates with the vehicle, whereas most of the rest of the country the plates stay with the person)
No matter what you do on the registration side though, make sure you get it insured immediately, that one there isn't a "grace period" on.
