Aluminum Expansion Bottle for L400

Post by Big-Bird »

If anyone is in the market for an uber durable expansion tank this is a great option. Perhaps this has been posted in here already but I found it by chance. Was looking for a used gauge pod and this popped up.

That's Lee. Check this stuff out if you want to keep drooling:

Yes - he does ship to Canada. I am still trying to save up enough dosh to get the battery tray and expansion bottle. Anyone looking for stainless intercooler pipes should buy from him. Basically the same as the ones I got from DelicaShop, but way cheaper. Like almost a hundred bucks cheaper.

The fella who makes it is also a member of the Australian Delica club.
A number of members have purchased those bottles from him and have been very happy with them.
I am going to get one as I am not a fan of the plastic bottle,

I would definately be in on the grouper, but just wait until I can sell a kidney or two :-)

I have talked to him a few time through the Aussie forum and he is also on the UK forum. Very good guy to deal with. He makes a lot of the items when an order is placed.

Did some calcs and based on todays British Pound ->Canadian conversion of $1.56885

108.00 pounds converts to $169.44 CAD.

He claims international delivery is 20 pds ($31.38 CAD)

$200.80 + taxes, fees, duty......

Does anyone have the info for taxes, duty and (ugh) brokerage? Does Royalmail end up in the Canada Post system or does it default to a courier like DHL/UPS?

I do have a question about Lee's shipping cost est of 20 british pounds for international mail as the Royalmail website calcs the shipping cost to Canada at over 2x that for a 2kg package valued up to 100 british pounds.

I think he is based out of the UK though, so it will be in british pounds. This is a response he sent to me inquiring about the battery trays:

"Hi Craig, i could supply you a tray kit including delivery for £145 GBP. It would be difficult for me to give you the dims, as i make them on a jig i made off the original tray.

Let me know what u think.

Regards Lee"

"If you want to order send payments in GBP £££ via paypal to leeskillan@blueyonder.co.uk and mark it as a gift, don't forget to include your address. "

Yes it is UK pounds...Australia uses dollars. 8-)

UK Royal Mail ends up in the Canada Post system so no outrageous brokerage fees on arrival.

I got one when my coolant bottle went instead of buying another plastic one... they are awesome.

I did try to get Noel to make me one, but being in Calgary made it complicated to do any fine tuning... I'd suggest talking to him about a group buy... his work is awesome, and if there's someone nearby you could do the little bits of fiddling needed to make sure it fits just right.

Foxy....Who's Noel? I thought the guy that made these tanks was named Lee....

And possible fitment issues? Was your install not a straight drop in for the original plastic one?

Details please.

Noel runs Enviroimports, they do custom delica racks and other bits of metal work... they do amazing aluminum welding. He runs out of Victoria. I was getting him to do the bottle as a one off custom, which is why there were some fit issues. Would have been an easy solve if I was nearby him, but being in Calgary and having to ship the bottle back and forth meant too much time off the road and I ended up having to go with one from Tigweld4u... its nice but it was more expensive (ran around $230 when all was said and done), and I'd rather support local businesses when I can. If people in BC are interested I'd recommend talking to him and seeing if something can get set up.

Hi guys, just dropped by to say hello, a member from here has contacted me about purchasing one of my expansion tanks.

The price for a tank is £108 which includes the sight glass and stainless pressure cap, delivery is international signed for and insured for £100 with the Royal Mail and actually costs me £21.70 to send 1.2kg anywhere outside of Europe, but I only charge £20. As far as i am aware once the parcel reaches the destination country it is delivered by the postal service for that country.

See here for correct prices http://c435158.r58.cf3.rackcdn.com/pric ... e_easy.pdf top left table.

£4.26 (first 300g) + £9.99 (900g extra) + £4.95 (signature) + £2.50 (insurance £100) = £21.70

I've had no reported issues with fitment as I fit all the mounting brackets off a jig I made from an original Mitsu tank, there are other companies making the tanks but from what I've been told by people who have tried these, so far mine has worked best.

As far as a group buy goes, I spoke to the Australian site a while back and decided it was better to deal with peoples orders individually. Basically the cost to send 10 tanks to Oz was over £200 and would mean somebody would have to send me over £1200 to place the order, which divided by 10 is around the same as what I charge now to send 1 tank.

Hope this answers a few of the questions asked, if anyone wishes to contact me please email info@tigweld4u.com

Regards Lee
