Post by trecar »

what is the max depth for a replacement door speaker? i know the back ones are 74mm. And can someone confirm the size of door speakers. i am hearing anywhere for 6" (from the aussie site) to 6.75" here. Would like to know before i order the speakers.

i believe i got the answer from the uk site that says the stock speaker is a 6" but a 6.5" will fit, just have to drill new mounting holes in the plastic......just in case anyone was wondering. :-)

I suppose you could always pull off your door panel, remove the speaker and then take a measurement !!!

Then just leave the door panel off until you get the new speakers. install the new speaker and put the panel back on.

Oh yeah then post a how to as well as the actual speaker size and depth ! :-D :M

If you make a new mounting plate, you can go deeper.

Mine was 6.25" diameter and 45mm depth snug fit

I just dropped some 6.5" in that had a mounting depth of about 2 3/4". I made a small spacer about 5/16 and then shaved some of the plastic on the back side of the grill (on the door panel) so that nothing touched anywhere. Works fine!. Just be sure you have your speaker wire secured to the inside door skin. I had to put an extension on mine and missed this detail and my window is now running into the wire. I need to go in and fix that up yet.

Just a heads up but there is a lot of info on the UK Site to do with speakers. Mounting and depth to be exact.

Here's a link to get at the one's in the doors.

I've got a full set of Rockford Fosgate speakers coming so I'll be tackling this in the near future.

So here it is folks, just installed my new pioneer speakers i got off ebay (awesome deal) and they all fit good....these are the ones i used with mounting depths

model #
TS-G1043R----4" dash with mounting depth 1 3/4" (only mod was taking on one of the mounting brackets on the speaker to fit on dr's side)
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... /TS-G1043R

TS-G1643R----6 1/2" depth 1 5/8" (only mod drill new mounting holes in plastic as mentioned above)
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... /TS-G1643R

TS-6964R-----6 x 9 depth 2 7/8 (front of speaker touches side panelling no biggy)
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... /TS-A6964R

hope that helps other folks, i did not take pics (cause the whole job took me aobut 8 hrs), ran new wiring for the rear, but could not feed wire for the door and dash speakers without wrecking something.

Wow, I am not alone with my selection. Aside from the source I got the same set of speakers; $150 for 3 pairs was not bad at all!

Had to take the door apart to fix a window out of its channel so took the opportunity to put in new speakers. 6.5'' infinity coaxials fit just fine (6032cf were the ones i used). Once you figure out how to get the trim off it was a five minute job. Had to drill new holes in the plastic and put on a smaller clip for the ground wire but that was all. And boy does the stereo sound better now (the stock speakers were in pieces)

I've had luck with Alpine for the shallow 6x9s... fit with patience and sound great! I'm building a small box for a 10' sub under my passenger seat, i'll post pic when i'm done.
