26mm Sandwich Adapter - Simplify your Bypass Filter Install

Post by psilosin »

Image

Delica Sandwich Adaptor by JACKMASTER - 26mm Filter, fits Isuzu, Pajero, Rodeo

About time someone started making them...(they also make 24mm units for Surfs and Landcruisers now too)

I use a Jackmaster Bypass Oil Filter on my Hilux Surf and it is well constructed so I would assume this is a nice bit o' kit as well. Just be aware that the off teh shelf units have BSP threaded ports...hard to find here so might want to get connectors with it or ask for a cutom unit with NPT threads.

Shipping from AU sucks ass but maybe if there is enough interest in these adapters and/or their Jackmaster bypass filter we can get some group buy action going.

Price? If not out of the stratosphere I am in on a group buy.
Measure it twice, cut once. Dam still cut wrong

So this would be like the amsoil one I have but would not require a tap to create it?

The only concern I have is that this looks quite large and space in the l300 is very limited.

Exactly.

My concern as well on the L400...the stock oil filter is already 36feet long...who wants to make it even longer

What I would do if getting this for a bypass oil filter install is get a custom spigot/nozzle/whateveryoucallthecentrepiece: 26mm female end to attach to the Delica and then a 3/4-16 male end so you could use a more basic and cheap and smaller primary filter. WIN.

Actually, it comes in two parts, one to mount to the oil filter location, the other to allow you to mount your filter to a new location. There is a good post on it on the Oz forum: http://www.delicaclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=30072

Yes the remote adapater is is a seperate item from the sandwich adapter. Used together you can remote mount both your full flow and bypass filter.

No real reason not to move the full flow filter to a remote location but it is one of those things that make my spider sence tingle for some reason so I would prefer to leave the fill flow filter as close to the engine as possible.

Moving the Full-Flow filter can actually be very beneficial.

First, it moves the filter away from the bottom of the vehicle where it can get a hole in it while off roading, causing you to lose all your oil!

Next, the filter is in an easier location to access for replacement (hopefully!).

And finally, the addition of the hoses increases the total volume of oil you need to use in your engine. Never mind the other gadgets you might be adding that increase the need for oil volume, like a bypass filter etc.

A higher volume of oil keeps the engine cooler and helps reduce overall wear etc.

The only negative I have heard with remote mounting the full flow is depending on how/where/angle the full flow is mounted, that even with an anti drain back valve equipped filter you may get the filter (and lines) draining completely after siting overnight leading to clickity clickity clickity for the first few moments of startup while the oil pressure builds and fills back up the filter and lines. Likely easy enough to avoid with thought to mounting location and line routing and filter install angle.

Are you going to go for it Mr Flibble?

I will if I am allowed to keep my Delica, that is currently up in the air as to weather I will get my "Letter of Compliance" from Mitsubishi or not. :-(

Just a bit of a bad news update. This adapter will not work on L400's and Pajeros that have an extended oil filter nipple like in the picture below. :-(

How many have that? I know I could pull off my filter and look, but what determines the presence of that?

..the nipple should be removable. (press fit) The 4D56 employs a similar design. I removed mine with some carefull twisting and uniform pressure while the block was still warm. I do not have a 4M40 so I cannot verify from experience. The tell on the 4D56 was the guide tube was a different material.(bronze) The adapter on the L300 is still being used 4 years later with no problems at all. I installed it to use a dual Amsoil bypass filter set up, and use Fram filters for a Cummins.(waaaay cheaper with larger capacity and same micron filtration!!)
I also machined the adapter for the 4M40 adapter for another Delica member (drumster?) in another post, it was similar as well. (check- http://www.delica.ca/forum/amsoil-dual- ... ght=amsoil)
