I agree with most of that. Your post doesn't take into account crumple zones etc though. Assuming a Delica vs a midget hitting a wall, at lower speeds the people in the front of the Delica are more likely to be crushed, assuming higher speeds both would most likely die. The force put on the body from sudden stopping can kill you regardless of damage to the vehicle.

Now take a heavy vehicle with a crumple zone and 5 star safety rating vs a smart car. Despite the smart car being less damaged in an accident the speed required to kill the occupants would be less because the impact would be more sudden.

No hit obstacle, no crumple.

Agree with small nimble cars having increased avoidance but in the event of a collision your kinetic energy vector transfer physics is off. The bigger mass always transfers more energy to the small mass, even if that energy transfer results in the smaller mass being deflected in a different vector rather than destroyed, the instantaneous vector change causes more trauma to an occupant than that of a reduced velocity maintaned in the original vector in the big mass vehicle.

When a city bus hits a pedestrian, the pedestrian isn't safely deflected with no harm and everyone in the bus dead. When a baseball player strikes the ball with a bat it is the ball that goes flying not the batter. The lower mass object always loses. :-D

the SmartCar uses good engineering to disapate a lot of the energy it receives in collision to prevent trauma. The Midget does not have that benefit most likely, neither do most cheap small cars.

It is pretty cool, but needs slotted headlights and dome hubcaps to complete the look.
