...what happened to the "These are your moderators" thread?

Were the concerns addressed? Are new moderators being sought? Are no-longer-active moderators being asked to "retire"?

Who gets to make these decisions? And when will we - the forum at large - be informed? Will we be informed? I don't mind either way, I'm just thinking it would be good to know "No, you won't be told," because then at least I would know where I stand on the issue.

There seems to be considerable interest in this topic, and it seems like it should be discussed a bit further.

Deleting threads isn't going to make the uncomfortable issues go away - it'll only make the people go away. And the issue will remain...

It was removed from the Public Forum. This was discussed Between Mark and myself last night after we had previously talked with another moderator, as it was questioning knowledge that is widely available to the membership. It is also a topic that has been answered in other topics a number of times. It also slags two of the moderators and then the administration for choosing them over others.

Further to Falco's message, I just sent to you a PM (the contents of which are pasted below in case any others had similar questions)...

You were asking about the whereabouts of a recent post on Delica.ca relating to who the moderators were.

The thread that you refer to was removed from the forum because it failed to offer any positive contribution to regular site users. The up-to-date listing of current moderators is always available to any interested member, simply by clicking on the "moderators" link from the main page (please do let me know if you encounter any difficulty in finding it).

It became immediately apparent to myself and to the other admin/moderators that the thread in question was posted for no other reason than to rail against (the thread author's perception of) shortcomings with the administration and moderation of Delica.ca. It is for this reason that the thread was removed.

The purpose of Delica.ca has always been to host discussions on topics of interest to Delica owners and enthusiasts. Regretably, over the past 12 months a handful of members (including some businesses and private individuals) have chosen to use this forum as a platform to aggressively advertise, and to vent inter-business disputes, inter-personal disputes, member-admin dispute - matters that ALWAYS more appropriately dealt with privately.

In cases where a thread goes "sideways" in a negative way, our approach moving forward will be to identify where the discussion went off topic, delete where required, and to indiscriminately issue warnings to all members (dealers and private individuals alike) who chose to post to the thread. Ironically, the members who are most vocal in calling for "more moderation" are often the same folks who express the deepest outrage when their own behaviour gets curbed.

Anyways, I wouldn't expect you to necessarily agree with the removal of this thread, but hopefully this help you to understand the reason for its removal.

Coincidentally Mark, one of the "topics of interest" to Delica owners and enthusiasts visiting this forum has been even-handed and unbiased moderation.

If that "interest" isn't being addressed through PM's, emails, or some sort of announcement on the forum, it's going to keep cropping up in this public venue - and you're going to have to keep deleting threads that ask 'thorny questions'.
