Hi, I am looking for a little advice. I am looking to purchase my first delica. I live in the East Kootenays and most winter days the weather is below 0C, I am wondering if I should be going after a Chamonix version, or does it matter?

A chamonix or super exceed / exceed with the winter package wouldn't be a bad idea, but you can easily put 2 batteries in a normal delica and be just about as good. Things like injection pump timing will be even more critical, so make sure that gets done, especially if the timing belt has been changed.

and if it hasn't been changed, CHANGE IT! the timing belt is meant to last 100,000km, (about the average mileage of these vehicles) however belts wear out not only with mileage but with age as well, even if your vehicle has less than 100,000km on it, it's still 15 years old.

Ain't just the mileage, it's the age of the timing belt as well that determine there condition. Because of the low miles most Delica's arriving haven't had ALL the belts changed yet.

All models should be fine with; new batteries, great tires, and some form of engine heater would fit the bill. Do a search there's some good discussions on the different heating devices out there. The job of all Delica.ca members; keeping all from have preventable roadside breakdowns - happy driving!

Just wondering what kind of oil most people are using in the winter in their Delicas. I've never had a diesel before, let alone a 15 year old diesel in the winter. Is it always better to use synthetic? What's the best viscosity for the deep cold of Calgary winter?

I live in Kimberley and have a Super Exceed winter package, it can be tuff to start at minus 10 but other than that its pretty good, just need to let it warm up. In the last week we had a cold snap and I sure used the batteries to get it started. Judging by the huge amounts of smoke I need to adjust my injection timing. Just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. If you are in the area and want to see my van let me know.
