It seems as though some of the traboid, Fran's and amsoil filters are interchangeable and do the same job. Could one not just buy the cheaper of the 3 and use that with whichever system they have?

2nd set of results done at close to 15K kms post oil change with new filter/bypass filter/amsoil 15w40 diesel oil.



still goin, can anyone comment on the lead reading highlighted in yellow at 29? is it dangerous when it it's the red figures?

The main and rod bearings are coated in a product called babbet it is made mostly of lead, after led you will hit aluminum, then copper then steel. I would not worry just yet you want to watch the the trends with oil analysis. If you get consistant high lead then your aluminum/cooper jumps you will want to pull the oil pan and inspect/replace those bearings. Not a difficult job just messy.

From the two times you have done the analysis your levels have all gone up, past practice with regular oil changes I would say go for the bottom end. But with extended service its a coin toss is it just higher levels cause the oil has never been changed or are main/rod bearings truly eroiding.

The only way to know is wait and do one more analysis if lead jumps again then you will know what to do.
Or if you are worried pull the oil pan and check the main bearing closest to the transmission. This one will have the most wear from the trust forces from the trans and the weight of the trans.

awesome. thanks for that Dustin! i'm advised to check again at 5k kms post this test. but i think i'll go ahead and change it now for piece of mind, then still check at 5K kms, just to see how the old oil/now at 20K kms with a fresh filter is doing...is this okay? or should i chance it, although i think that lead figure will be in the red zone... anyway, i'm comfortable with that.

i'm still amazed however of how the results are with the land cruiser with no bypass, @ 22K kms..maybe it's a testament to the OEM oil filter which i've heard great things about...and maybe b/c of the extra volume of oil that's being used up.

I think changing the oil then re testing at 5000 km would be the best way. That way you know your lead levels are reset and then restart your long interval tests again. If those tests show the same as the last then i would not worry to mch about the lead readings.
