Re: Friday March 28th-Sunday March 30th Harrison FSR Round Deux
Hi All Deli-coholics, So now that you've seen the photos posted of the fun everyone had on our Stave Lake convoy (March 1st) ... now imagine double that fun as the Adrock's Harrison Trek is longer -- more time to chat & compare. & make friends.
Things we learned today now ready to use on "Adrock's Expediton":
We perfected the art of towing pals out of self-inflicted bogs (note to self -- It is really fun to watch when you send the driver in their Bare Feet into the muck of snow melt mud to Hook On the tow line -- the pain on their face ensures you won't see them driving incautiously into uncharted areas for a while).
Of course, less chance to tow on the Harrison Road as more civilized, but the reassurance of knowing how to do it is A Good Thing.
And we watched a fun FUN FUN food heating technique from Coaxial -- no not telling yet -- come on this Harrison trip for a demo. I am partial to my microwave and inverter as installed in the Tardis.
Compared various storage boxes people have built. Stuart built a perfect sturdy wooden box to fit in the wasted space under the rear beach that works on both bench normal and bench folded. Jay TardisDeli built a box to replace the rear bench and enable comfortable sleeping for tall folk.
Even in rain, we stood around under the open rear tailgates and stayed dry with easy access to food and stuff. Bring your folding chairs and it is very cozy.
FRS family radio walky-talky were shared amongst each deli -- fun to chat while driving -- hey look at the head's spin on the golfers as we convoy past -- what rpm revolutions are people doing on this hill -- what is your thermostat needle showing -- how much black smoke is normal from the deli's in front of you. All those technical questions immediately answered.
And just meeting up with such nice people -- and the wide ranging interesting conversations we get into on all sorts of topics.
So, come on deli-ites, mark your calendar now, find your camping gear (best prices & selection at Army & Navy now -- they have it all, New West has free parking at back), get a queen size chunk of foam or an airmattress (walmrt), stock up on tin can food so no-fuss cooking. Bring an extra layer of warm clothes for true happiness. Stockpiling a milk crate of firewood to contribute to the group campfire, we have long metal toasting forks for your marshmallows.
I Look forward to meeting more new owners -- come on out. Most of us didnt know each other before last week so this is definitely a chance to make new friends.
Don't make me have to bribe with rice-crispy squares again -- this time they'll be made while around the campfire - yyuummm (we bring our portable wood stove so weather is not a problem).
Cheers Christine and Jay of the TardisDeli.
PS: Welcome all out-of-town deli's -- welcome to sleep in our house before / after. Secure parking in our back yard.

I found this website recently http://maps.gov.bc.ca/imf50/imf.jsp?sit ... 202,602110
It is a forestry campsite map and seems to have the major logging roads. I hope it works.

I checked and it looks like I'm available so count me in. I've got a concert sunday night in vancouver but should be back by then. I'll try to convince the girlfriend to come along as well.
I got some new curtains from coombs and once I figure out how to install them (which goes where) I will be much better set up for camping.
bc4x4 is doing a maintenance run of harrison west FSR on Saturday and there is rumor that it is even plowed to a certain point, I believe they mean the sunrise lake turnoff, which is 1/3 of the way up from harrison to tipella at the top of the lake. I'll be sure to find out from them what the conditions were like.
In any case I'm sure it will be in great shape by the 28th.

we were worried about the road last year, didn't seen any snow whatsoever. If its not doable we'll find something that is, all part of the adventure.

Re: Friday March 28th-Sunday March 30th Harrison FSR Round Deux
Alright, I have to get in gear for this, i've been just sort of ignoring it and knowing it will happen but not putting much thought into it.
Things we need to know:
Where to meet and what time
Where to stay friday night (maybe somewhere more accessible to people who just want to come out for that evening?)
Saturday will be spent driving and mucking about. It will be very fun. Make it to sloquet again. That was really an amazing part of the trip being at the hot springs.
Sunday drive out, lunch in pemberton possibly for those interested.
So I guess all we really need to know is what to do for friday night. Any suggestions?

Friday I think I will still go to work so will leave vancouver around 4 of 5PM and meet up wherever you guys are camping. Sunday I just need to be back in town by dinner time for a concert. I'm flexible about everything else.
the bc4x4.com west harrison fsr run showed a ton of snow but that is on the side "roads" I'm pretty sure.. one of us should actually post there asking how the main road is. There was one guy on their forums who drives west harrison FSR every day apparently. Also the harrison visitor's centre is suprisingly helpful, when I stopped there one time before they had tons of knowlege of 4x4ing in the area and road conditions.. might be as easy as a quick phone call to them.
I'd be willing to do a quick drive down there just prior to the 28th if we really want to be 100% sure about road conditions,
but like I said it should be fine. Likely there will be zero snow on the roads. We'll make sure either way to eliminate the possibility of turning around.

Is everyone going Friday night or is there gonna be some "left over" leaving Saturday morning?
I'm working Friday night until midnight so won't be able to leave until the next morning (unless I do a little night drive?) So anyone out there that might join me for the Saturday morning drive? I'm in Burnaby so kinda on the way... I might also take the MapleRidge route to pick up my dog.

Friday evening for the TardisDeli, leave town 5ish straight from work in Burnaby, via TransCanada as way less traffic lights than Lougheed. We're also willing (as is Coaxial) to go out prior to check roads (on the previous weekend Easter is fine with us).
Patty or Whistler folk, can someone check the top road down from Pemberton?
The TardisDeli has the portable wood burning stove and the marshmallows&sticks, so warmth is mere minutes away (and bring your metal pot so you can heat your tinned foods atop - soooo camper-cool).
Cheers, Christine and Jay of the TardisDeli.

I could do that, DeliCat.delicat wrote:Is everyone going Friday night or is there gonna be some "left over" leaving Saturday morning?

We could leave fairly early in the morning and maybe get there as the main body is waking up ~ all we would need to establish is the location of the first night camp site. Even if it turns out to be a heavily guarded secret I know where Sloquet is (albeit I got there from the other direction but I have a map so I'm cool about it). We may even attract more late comers, you never know. As far as taking the No. 7 ~ I love that drive, or what is left of it.... smiles.

Good, as we get closer to the date we'll see if anyone else is gonna be joining us... Looking forward to that little escape!

Re: Friday March 28th-Sunday March 30th Harrison FSR Round Deux
I would anticipate the worst part of the journey will be the road off the main fsr to the sloquet campsite. However, last year we saw NO snow on the ground, and although this year has had more snowfall, I don't see it being a huge problem.
Any suggestions for the first night?
