Well I can say one thing Alex, you sure pulled this group together. Though I don't believe it was needed.
Heck at least you have a Deli, I finally put a deposit on one several weeks ago. So really, I have not been a part of this elite group, yet they have all treated me like I was for the past year or so (me thinks).
Yes, when I see the reply use the "search engine" it bothers me sometimes (come on it's a newbie), yet I do see a lot of repetition over and over again. Also for the longest while I did not know there was a "search engine" on this site. Now I use it a lot.
So sit back take a deep breath and give these good folks another shot.

Alex, how are you, man! Welcome to Delica Canada . I apologise for not being at the door to greet you, seriously ~ I have been working on a TV show and my time has been limited. Word of advice: Keep an eye out for "Events ~ Lower Mainland". Although people are busy these days and our core crew is currently all over the globe, asunder, there is bound to be something soon. I would take Golf Cart up on his invitation for coffee, this is where it all begins. You will find that there is something for everyone here, even you... smiles. Delica mini-meets are the place to glean knowledge. Sometimes I post threads and get little or no response, and I am a moderator, what's with that, eh?! Even though, I can assure you that we are not snobs ~ at least not if you have a Delica .

Learn the website, explore the different forums ~ there is a whole plethora of information here, as well as rye comments.

While it is true you may be part of a thread that get hijacked by mountain bike talk. Lurking here regularly for over a year now, I mostly stick to the sidelines but say hi every once in a while.

One does have to remember we are also talking about a forum of 4x4 van owners... This population will no doubt attract some hippie redneck types. You know the crystal through forehead, granola, fruit leather VW persona crossed with some Baja/Dekar Mad Max-er beef jerky lover, who's bumper may have once been a railroad tie, yet some how gets the whole thing runs on WVO.

Personally I got my Van as an escape pod for when the zombies invasion occurs with the good intentions of modifications to further that goal. Slowly but surely its coming along (its got a bed in the back and two cup holders), Yet I still seem to pay someone else to change my oil.

However should I recently need a sticker for association to Russian delica club (should I have to flee that far across what will no doubt be a land bridge after the future zombie apocalypse). All I had to do was ask and one magically appeared at my door, No money was asked for the sticker nor money for the stamp

Perhaps my dog just left me and I decide to go camping with some people I have never met before. There usually is one or two in the crowd you can drink beer/eat cookies with.

Yes Jim-boy, here there be nerds. Weird Crazy Nerds. They will be found on any fan site on the internet. The interesting thing here is you can actually meet these people if you want to or not and they can still be pretty cool, though they will definitely have an opinion, some just phrase things...just so.

Well it seems that I have struck a nerve.

My rant originated from my earlier post http://www.delica.ca/forum/rust-questio ... light=rust when I received only one reply. Firstly, I would like to thank nishby for getting back to me. Secondly, a day or two later a similar question was posted http://www.delica.ca/forum/question-for ... light=rust and this individual received all sorts of replies with links, tips and tricks. This is not the first time I have seen this. I have seen many newcomers post a question about something basic like oil types, tire size or gas milage. This is when you will see the classic short and snobby reply of " I suggest you try the search function". Ultimately, in the grand scheme of thing does it really matter if the same question is asked twice. Considering that North Korea is gearing up for a nuclear war will it matter that there is some "clutter" on the site. Someone who is supposedly a member just would like an answer from people who have the know how. Isn't that the point of this site. Perhaps I should look into creating a series of Delica dictionaries so people can just do research by themselves in the basement.

I apologize for my earlier rant. I'm glad that it brought the Delica community together. Maybe, next time I will title a simple question about heating or oil with something like " Your mother wears combat boots" and then the replies will roll in.

Lots of white delicas out there - not many rusty ones. Not much point in posting a reply if ya don't have anything useful to offer... And as for the newbee questions that get asked over and over, directing them to the search function IS a helpful answer - just directing them to the archived discussions that will tell them what they need to know

Just some general thoughts on the matter...

Sometimes it is a matter of timing, normaly I look at 'view active topics' and catch up on the latest only. Sometimes I'll read but not have time to post anything at all if the post takes research time. Everyone has their own time tables etc and I believe that you weren't singled out at all but it was a matter of circumstance.

On that note I do agree that at times people posting 'use the search function' have seemed a little short and occasionally rude to me. That is a function of the printed word usually, the tone is set by the reader often and if one is frustrated by delica issues it can transfer to how you perceive the post. I'm speaking in generalities of course and from personal experience.

I must say that the search function on this site SUCKS as often you need the right terminology, in the correct order, or you get way too many off topic threads. Doing a google search of the site seems to work much better, maybe doing a search within a given topic would yield better results... I'll have to try that :)

Everyone I have dealt with persoanlly on this site has been awesome, Jesse, Marty, Isaac, Christina, Falco, Felix etc. I appreciate all the help I have received. Also the multiple posts and responses have been great and given time you will feel the same I'm sure.

Most of us aren't even as close to being as social web savy as a grade 9 girl and fail mirserably to observe web etiquette to the same degree, duh.

Has anyone meet a forum where the search function doesn't suck?

The best way with any forum I've found, for like foever dude, use Googles advanced search and 'search within a site or domain'entering Delica.ca for example.

Is this because of the white delica post?

I myself have asked about rust or commented on it in many posts.
I guess I didn't comment because it is a much talked about issue
with any vehicle.. you should see the VW forum i used to be on.
Search engine works great.

This is how awesome. My friend blew up my stereo in my delica
A fellow delica owner sent me a 'free' deck to stick in the whole
Awesome!! Another owner volunteered to bring a hitch all the
way to Saskatoon from BC (didn't end up needing it but he
did bring me some monsoon guards). Another time a vinyl sticker
magically appeared in my mail box :)

The Karma floating around is positive and a great place
to bask in. Deep breath and lets pretend you didn't get
all hussy over that ;)
