A snobby world of nerds
Dear Everyone,
I was very excited to become part of the Delica community upon purchasing a van. I assumed that this website would be an excellent resource to access a group of like minded individuals who were willing to help each other with any problems, questions or concerns that a fellow member might encounter with their van. Unfortunately, my high hopes have been crushed by what seems to be a small group of Deli snobs. I have seen numerous times individuals post a somewhat basic question. These people often receive a snobby or no answer at all. It seems that if you are not born a Delica
rain-man like savant then you will not be openly welcomed into this elitist society. Let us not forget that we all have to crawl before we can walk and at some point in time none of us knew much about these vans.
This to me seems much like a high school situation. It bares close resemblance to a new kid at school wanting to become part of the audio visual club to make friends and maybe play some Dungeons and Dragons on the weekend. However, there is already a small collection of Dungeon masters whose IQ is far too superior to allow a newbie to bore them with trivial and elementary questions. Instead they just put on their capes and stay in the dark basement playing with each others dipsticks.
Thanks for nothing.
Alex.

Re: A snobby world of nerds
Give your head a shake my friend, this forum is full of the most forthright, diverse and enthusiastic people I've ever met. Not quite sure where you got this idea from???.And not particularly the best intro for yourself..LOL..
If you feel you've been dismissed in some way, please just ask around some more before getting on the offensive, as most here just interested in keeping the family atmosphere going, but I've never seen anybody get run over by the welcome wagon yet..
So, a sincere warm welcome then,
Kelly.

Re: A snobby world of nerds
sorry to hear you have such a skewed opinion of Deli owners. As someone who has been driving and enjoying my Deli for a little over 2 years, I've given and received all sorts of info from this forum. If you are referring to the questions that got the answer "use the search function", that isn't rude or elitist, but could be a time saver, and if someone was to use the FAQ section on the forum, they may be able to find answers to questions they hadn't even got around to asking yet!
When I read your post today, the first thing that came to mind was "I wonder what he asked to get an opinion such as this", so I looked at your posts. Guess what I found?? You've posted one other question (before your mini-rant today) and it seems you got quite a reasonable answer. So, where does this bolt from the blue originate??
Please enlighten the rest of us!

Say what?
It has its issues, but as online forums go, this one isn't bad. I've seen some that were truly frightening.

Re: A snobby world of nerds
this truly one of the tamest forums of any kind on the internet, posts of commonly asks questions on any of the other sites I go to for other things will get you massive amounts of grief. Try to look at it from the other side, if you where a long time member of a site that you were not paid to attend how would you feel seeing the same question asked every couple of days, often with the answer in a post a couple of lines below the one posted by the new person. I hold back on this site but it still pisses me off to see that, why the hell should I search the site for you and post a like or copy over the answer? I'm not doing anything special that you can't do, this isn't McDonalds, get your own damn hamburger.

Re: A snobby world of nerds
You know I have to disagree with you TENFOLD. I am a new L400 owner and I have received only support form all who have contacted me. Look at my posts and you will see many people that have given information and knowledge and have not asked for anything in return. The Deli culture is strong and welcoming!! To all new members who read this forum, please do your own due diligence before passing judgement.atrebeck44 wrote:Dear Everyone,

Re: A snobby world of nerds
I think that if you did a search for: "nose out of joint for no good reason" I tend to think you would only find a couple hits!
Why bother to have so many archived threads, with invaluable information available to everyone using a modicum of effort, if they won't be used? Clutter (sorry reposts) on a site only serve to muddle affairs. If a thread isn't able to run its coarse and have feed back past and present it isn't much good. Only my thoughts. I don't mean to offend only try to reason out why you might have been responded to the way that you were. I really doubt if any kind of serious disrespect was intended from the response you got. In fact I at one point in my naivety was directed to the search function and it has made all the difference.

Re: A snobby world of nerds
Hi Alex and welcome, I think so anyway...
I have to say, this is one of the best post I've seen in ages, made me laugh out loud!
So, this is the reason for having such a bitchy attitude!
http://www.delica.ca/forum/rust-question-5703.html
Funny you're so upset when you didn't even had the courtesy to thank the fellow member who answered you...
I have the impression that you might be on your own for some time but if you ever decide to improve your attitude we'll be here to help, again... (Maybe you just had a bad day, didn't you!)
Good luck with your Delica!
David

Re: A snobby world of nerds
Alex,
Welcome to Delisnobland.
Sergiy ( Profister) and I are getting together on Sunday for coffee in North Van. Why not invite yourself ?
Anyone else for that matter. I called a coffee stop Sunday to exchange a club sticker.
What you might want to do is :
1) Post your general loacation on yur profile ( gives guys n girls in the club who is where - just in case they are stuck and need club help.)
2) Breeze through the forums and see where people are located. Ask if you can tag along on a fix of a member who is ripping up the stereo, changing the oil, shit even figuring how to fill the washer fluid.
3) NEVER forget that alot of people will PM without letting the board know they did.
4) REMEMBER its FRIDAY !!!!
PM me for a location for Sunday. I'm taking my 4 year old. Its up on 18th n Lonsdale
Cheers ( or should I say cheer up )
Gregg

"Galstaff, you have entered the door to the north..."
...
(from the other room) "Where are the Cheetos?"
"Right next to you..."
"Where's the Mountain Dew?"
"In the fridge, duh!"
...
"Hey Graham, I'm not in the room, right?"
...
"Anyone else want one?"
...
"Any of the first level spells on the list."
...
"I'm casting Magic Missile!"
"Why are you casting Magic Missile? There's nothing to attack here."
"...uh ... I'm attacking the darkness!" (laughter in the background)
...
"I'm Galstaff, Sorcerer of Light."
"Then why did you have to cast Magic Missile?"
Of course, it our gym teacher's fault, for making us feel like outcasts because we couldn't do one, single pull-up.

And now that I've had a second look at your alias, I'm picturing something like the Will Ferrel-played character from SNL's Celebrity Jeopardy when the Sean Connery character is flinging another mother joke at the host.
