i understand that any electronics shop should be able to fix an ecu, the parts inside are all basic parts.
on t he other hand, its so easy to just swap an ECU for a good used one. available at the Delica shops around (fer sure at CC) or perhaps somebody here who is parting out can get you one..

It depends on what's actually wrong with the controller. Leaky capacitors are easy to fix (and is the usual failure mode). A fried microcontroller isn't.

Erebus wrote:There is a temperature sensor on the engine that feeds data to the ECU for glow plug control. It is a dual sensor, in that it also feeds the instrument panel temp guage. If that sensor (the ECU side) is faulty, it will make the ECU click the glow plugs on/off like crazy, just as you describe, which also burns out the glow plugs.

So it is possible the ECU is fine, but the sensor isn't. Easy to test if you can get hold of another sensor to swap. But you would have to re-connect the ECU.

To see photos of exactly where that sensor is, search this site. Pretty sure Green1 has posted photos in one of his tales of woe.

I had my ECU clicking on and off and it was real irritating. I went in to get it looked at and after swapping out the ECU it was still happening so that directly pointed to the sensor. As soon as the sensor was replaced my clicking stopped. It is certainly easier to replace the sensor first and see if that rectifies the clicking as the ECU is a pain to get at.

The alternator tensioner bolt is worse. But not by much!
