Green1 wrote:You agreed with all of his post except the part where he said that the average distance people drive per year in Japan is significantly less than in Australia or Canada... which was the whole point to the thread... I think he has a pretty good handle on average yearly mileage in Japan.
my answer to the post is below and nowhere does it mention anything like your post above. it does question high klms mainly on company vehicles and comments about the transport system. you really do appear to have a slight problem understanding what people write if you came to the above conclusion from my post.

a well thought out post by brave with good information. good to see confirmation about shaken certificate and shaken report. not sure about the comments about transport side of things being good outside of a few major cities or high klms mainly on company vehicles. looking at the transport system out side of the main shinkansen & JR route along the southern side of japan shows a different scenario north side of the honshu or south side of kyushu. the lowering of etc price should see more people driving longer distances thus putting more klms on cars.

why don't you ask mark if there is anything in my post that is not correct.

after re-reading it, I still can not come to any conclusion other than that you are trying to say the Japanese drive more than Mark says they do.

okay, now I see where you are trying to come from maybe. mark tried to explain that some people may not drive far and why. the key point here is that it is only some and based around people who live in near the cities like nagoya, as where he lives. i on the other hand have spoken about the people who are not predominantly in the major cities like tokyo, osaka, nagoya, fukuoka. these are the people who will drive a lot just like canadians, american, australians and use there cars to go to work and other places. the problem appears is that you have done what a lot of people do and focused on only one part of the equation without looking at the whole picture. it is the same as if you talk to someone about smoking in japan. 10 years ago people smoked every where. now this has changed a lot and in many places including walking around on some city streets smoking is banned. but when you speak to foreigners they regurgitate what it was like 10-15 years ago. this same dynamic change has happened with driving and car ownership in japan and japanese drive a lot more today than they did 10-15 years ago.

No, he said the AVERAGE vehicle in Japan drives significantly less than the average vehicle in Canada or Australia, sure there are some that are above average, and some below, but you are trying to twist it around and make it sound like most vehicles are above what he quoted as average so that you can justify the FALSE assumption that most vehicles have rolled back odometers.

So either A) you are flat out calling him a liar, or B) you are trying to IMPLY he is a liar... either way it doesn't look good.

wait this is happening again? hahaha

and in answer to the question about the moderator, it was me. He was flaming other member in that post, so I edited it. I edited it to say i'm an idiot, to let everyone know I don't like to spend my time looking after that kind of thing.

again you are definitely trying to stir the pot and i have not implied either. im wondering why you seem to be avoid the issue of asking mark if any of my comments are wrong? marks and my opinions may differ on certain parts and ive explained why but that no way indicates that either he or i are lying. you have shown a perfectly good example of how well you can twist things around. now are you doing this for fun or are you what some have told me a troll trying to stir up trouble?

thanks adrock for clearing it up.

Below is a copy of where mark explains you can buy super low etc. he also writes Just because a certain country does on average 20,000km’s a year does not mean every other country in the world does the same
Where does he write what his definition of average is in japan or that japan is lower than the 20,000 klms per year? he doesn't write it at all but we can assume it. now mark has simply given his perspective from his situation and circumstances and i have given it from another perspective. there is no mention of lying or implying so and I have even mentioned reasons for the differences of opinions but you just can't seem to take it in. so before anymore of your silly accusations ask mark what he thinks. i have no problems with discussing it openly here and putting it to rest.

some of marks post below.

Low Mileage Vehicles – here in Japan… you can buy super low, low, average and spaceship km vehicles. Just because a certain country does on average 20,000km’s a year does not mean every other country in the world does the same. For people who have been to Japan will understand why there are so many low km vehicles but for people who have not spent time here……. you will never understand why.
I live approximately 30km’s outside of Nagoya which is not far. Luckily for me, I do not have to travel to Nagoya for work but there are many people who do. To go from my house to Nagoya or near Nagoya in rush hour would take me……..hhhhhhmmmmm…. maybe two hours on a good day. If there is an accident then be prepared for a long drive. It would cost me fuel and then road tolls and the road toll alone on a return trip would be 3,800yen per day. Via train, it would take me half the time and a fraction of the price and I get to read a book at the same time.
There are also many other factors as well such as parking problems to name one of them.
Japan has one of the best public transport systems I have ever seen and it is well used.
But, you can also get high mileage vehicles but these tend to be vehicles that are company cars opposed to privately owned vehicles but you will still also get the private person who will only drive his/her car from point A all the way to point Z.

So this is all on me now? 8-) Well then, I'll bring it all back to the way it was when I get there. I move back in february. Until then, keep reigning it all in. :-D Are you done that schooling bit yet? Working again?
