After making a few phone calls I found the appropriate substitution locally for $160, Deka Intimidator 9A34. Sorry, this is a special deal and I cannot disclose the source. Kal Tire quoted me $284 for the same battery.

So what you're saying is that you're just bragging???
Haven't heard of this one before but if it's similar to the Odyssey than you're laughing.

Not really. I am giving you some knowledge.

Now you know that an Odyssey is not the only AGM battery available.

If the price of the Odyssey is too high, I would get the Sears Platinum. It has been confirmed as a relabelled Odyssey Battery. 7 year warranty with 4 years free is the best warranty you can get on a battery.
The Deka Intimidator's are apparently great AGM's. Not as well built internally as the Odyssey's but does it really matter.
Here are very low online prices for the Deka AGM's :

What are the spec's on that battery?

I bought some kirkland batteries for $85 a piece and just came inside from a successful but wet install. These have a 3 year warranty on them and 795CCA each. Other than what would seem to be a longer lifespan is there any reason to go with a higher end battery? After all it would have to last more than twice as long to make the price worth it.

Considering how much you needed to replace them, and your relatively conventional application, I think that the batteries you got will do you very well. Grats on getting a great price too!
The only reason to go higher end is if your needs/wants call for it. Being that electrical and duty cycle is REALLY important to me, I'm quite a snob about batteries. I want the best I can get. I was very interested in some of the other models mentioned here but they didn't turn out to be cheaper when compared to readily available pricing for the Odyssey batteries in the US.

Well my previous batteries lasted 19 years so I figured that the vehicle can't be too hard on them. I'm hoping they'll be alright for cold weather starts but then again they're bound to be better than the 200CCA the previous batteries were kicking out! Other than that I'm not too hard on the batteries. I'll bring a generator if I want to power anything with the vehicle off.

Remember that these are diesels with a 21:1 compression ratio and not petrol engine with an 8:1 ratio... your batteries won't last as long as they might on a gasoline fuelled car. Although I gotta say, nineteen years has got to be a record.

Do you have a date stamped on the batteries or do you assume they are still the first batteries in your Deli?
